Who's Sorry Now?

Thanks in defense of the G.E. I just spent over $1800 incl. extra warranties etc. for the Frigidaire Acclaim FL's and tho plastic platinum is cheesy it's an amazing performer. But it won't--can't--last 16 let alone 32 years like the Filter-flo.

Love that machine reversajet but it would just cost too much to ship to KY. Why don't you donate it to a thrift store? I really hate to see it get squashed to death!

Truly, I have my eye on a 1967 filterflow. It is right down the street and is in real good shape. She is a customer of mine and is talking about getting a new one real soon. I told her to let me assist her with that when the time comes, FREE OF CHARGE!

Just cutting up with you Steve! We had a rollermatic that was a real lemon when I was a child. However, I wish I had a gold crown Rollermatic like the one we had but I sure wouldn't use it for my main machine! We have had some really dependable FF's too so I am partial to the old FF's.

I would love to see your collection if I am ever down that way.

GE FILTER FLO

THAT GE FILTERR-FLO IS NOTHING BUT*#@*& LIKE SOME OVER PEOPLE SIDE MY MOM HAD THAT SET BRAND NEW WITH SOFTNER DISP FILTER AND MINI BASKET IT WAS JUNK THEN LIKE GE IS JUNK NOW

lol!! Thought you guys only played "kick the kenmore" around here, what up with this?

Lovewashers, does *#@*& stand for GREAT? I know our filter flo's have been great machines! (ducks and runs)

In my opinion, the only real problem that older GEs have, besides being water hogs, are dealing with unbalanced loads. With or without the cable suspension, they will shake!

Other than that, they're fun to watch and do a good job of washing. Anyone who doubts their reliability can just look at the February 1991 Consumer Reports issue; in descending order on the reliability scale, it was Hotpoint, Maytag, and then GE. Not to mention serviceability...an older GE is definitely a good machine for someone starting to collect and one of the EASIEST machines to work on out there. I posted about a transmission/belt/boot replacement I did on my '77 Dispensall last March; after all of the parts came in, it didn't take long at all!

Also, there has been some confusion on when the last old-style GE top-loaders were made. Some say 1994, others 1995. Looking at another CR report, it was indeed 1995. The last GE and Hotpoint machines with the "handwash" agitator were tested in the February issue for that year. The new "plastic" design was introduced before the next washer report for the July 1996 issue.

Nothing removes dog hair from washable fabrics like a Filter Flo. We used one to wash dog beds and towels in a kennel I once worked in back in the 70's. You wouldn't believe how much junk ended up in the filter pan!
Weren't these machines the ones that used a concrete block in the base to hold it steady? Before we bought our current Whirlpool Electonic set, we looked at Monkey Wards who was selling GE and the sales person told us that the GE's were cheaply built and that we would be better off with a Raytheon Amana washer than one of these.

ALL IMHO:

Rule #1: never trust a sales-person. They are there to get a commission for themselves. You are their last concern.
Various mannies offer them different incentives (financial and otherise)to push their own machines by manipulating the behavior of the sale-people.

And last of all, there are MANY points fo view on an issue and more than one road to Nirvana. Let us not forget that Consumer Reports (when they were somewhat respectable) used to downgrade tradtional dependale-care Maytags because their tops did not have a "lip" to contain water. Does anyone really care about that "feature"? Does it affect anything that a person buys a washer to do?

:-)

Don't even think about it!

I have a GE post filter-flo washer from 2000. This is after I dumped my filter-flo washer and matching dryer! I also have the matching dryer to the 2000 GE washer! Boy I regret ditching my filter-flo and taking it to the dump! If y're thinking about having your filter-flo set taken to the dump, Don't even think about it! Don't make the same mistake I did!

I thought perhaps it was the ghost of Christmas past!

The Filter-Flo was a great cleaner, but they were HUGE water hogs, they had no out of balance shut off and could "self destruct" causing tub or boot damage if ran out of balance, and had rust issues. I'm afraid they would be a huge failure if they were still being sold today.
