This is the first one I've seen.. I noticed it on the costco canada website.. but that ones is 10,000 btu and $999 Cdn. May have to consider one for our upstairs.. the portable ac is very noisy. And I like how it has a window hanging bracket

Found it on Amazon as well for $649 USD.. called the Rolli cool.
I had a portable split one, bought it used about 7 years ago or so. It was a 22,000 btu one or so. I used it for a year, the next year it did nothing anymore. It was very heavy, you needed three people to move it. Two for the part for inside and one for the part outside. The hoses are very vulnerable, you need to be careful with them. But when they work they work really well, way more efficient than a single portable one.
7 years ago.. Until now I've never seen a portable mini split. Although further googling it seems like there are all sorts of makes and models of them in Europe and Asia.. I even saw one called the Carrier Holiday.. but can't find it on any N.American website.
Maybe they were more popular overhere because we don't have window air conditioners because we have casement windows here as a standard. I remember those Carrier Holidays. Mine was a Zojirushi.
Portable Mini-Split A/Cs
Are probably a good idea because MS A/Cs are basically throw away A/Cs anyway and now you won't have to drill holes in your walls and tear up a home to have one.
MSs are more advanced and therefor use less power and operate more quietly, standard window A/Cs could be just as efficient but people will not pay $500+ for efficient window A/Cs so we are getting stuck with MS systems in the US as a poor alternative to real split system A/C and heat-pump systems.
MS systems tend to do a poor job controlling humidly because they usually keep the inside fan running all the time thus evaporating a lot of the moisture they capture right back into the room as soon as the compressor shuts off. They as also very poor at filtering more than large dust particles from the air [ standard window A/Cs have the same problem ] Permanently installed ducted split systems in the US usually have advanced hi efficiency filters and even electrostatic filters that literally catch almost all particles that are harmful to humans.
We even put this type of air-cleaning system in the warehouse to clean the air in the shop and offices. When we take the collector cells out and wash them in a DW the water literally turns dark gray to black and the electrostatic filter is in the air-stream AFTER a standard filter like MSs have and then a 4" thick high efficiency pleated filter.

I gave them to a friend of mine.
He stashed them in his garage and then they and everything else in the garage was lost in the "great San Jose Flood" of 2017.
VERY hard to find these and the were VERY expensive to purchase new.
I found one for $400 used and another "demo" for $1000 from a dealer in Montana.
They ARE the most efficient of the "portable" A/C units.
Those with exhaust hoses just suck cool air right out of the room and send it outside PLUS the exhaust hose just adds more heat load to the room since it gets quite hot when in operation.

I remember that old thread now.. you're right it's not new... It's still odd as to why they aren't being sold over here.. I think they would sell like hotcakes to lots of people in condo's or older apt buildings with balconies etc that don't have ac thru the wall units etc..

The "umbilical" cord looks much the same on both units and it IS fragile.
Contains 2 refrigerant lines, power cable and drain tube so it can be a bit unwieldy.
