I have my new gal home. This is the one that my friend Chris in NY found for me on Craig's List for $50. I drove over and got her last Tues. She is awesome. She has been used because the idiot who owned her used her with the wrappers on the wringer rolls. I have them but they are kinda messed up from the activity and soap. She has not been used much and is spotless. The bottom roll is a bit yellowed from her age. She was born in Sep of 1980. These pics were taken while she was still in the living room. She is now in her parking spot. I will use her tomorrow to see how she works.
This is a full monty shot.

Bottom view. The spot on the bottom of the power unit is not grease but rather some kind of factory goop. It won't come off.

Congrats, Jim !

A REAL beauty and a true collectors item!

1980?? Is there a typo or Maytag were still manufacturing some of those by then?

''Someone used her with the wrappers on the wringer rolls''
LOL or S.O.S. (...Sigh...)

How sweet is is, Jim!

It REALLY looks brand new as if you just took it out of the box.

Maybe the former owner used it only once and was dissatisfied with the poor wringing. Wrappers don't do nearly as well on removing water as rollers do, (chuckle).

Well,

Wilma May performed flawlessly on Monday. She just purred right along. I agree with you Mickeyd that the wringer worked better without the wrappers LOL. I found out in a big hurry tho that I can not use the pump to drain her. I wash in the kitchen and had one big mess. That pump works better than a fire truck pump. I had water all over the place. I put the hose over the sink and turned on the pump and was flabbergasted at where water was going that it shouldn't. After I got the mess cleaned up i removed the gooseneck and put the hose on and gravity drained her. Those pumps are incredibly strong. She still looks new but just didn't come in a box LOL.
Thanks for the compliments guys !!

Jim

Hydrants.

Jim, the minute I got my first Tag, I changed the hose. The original just splashed too much, and wasn't long enough for my laundry room set-up. Now I have a regular all rubber hose on her, and though she still drains so fast, there is no splashing. Please don't waste that magnificent pump on a gravity drain.
Somewhere that MUST be sacrilege ;-D

OR.... drain by gravity with the pump on, for real pump drama and a total "warshday" rush. LOL. Do you have a basement?

I fully agree with all up-to-code-factory-standard people, that the original elevated shiny hook is stunning and a quintessential Maytag Signature, but it is narrow, making the water pressure unmanageable in certain sinks and situations.

Just beautiful

What a fantastic find! Congratulations on the newest addition to your collection. I too have an N, but mine does not have the pump - a great machine none the less.

Two weeks ago while driving to Milwaukee to obtain another find, I stopped in Newton, IA to see the Maytag collection at the Jasper County museum. They've got an N, amongst many other Maytags on display. Another AW Member Bradross (I think) has a wonderful collection of photos of the museum on flickr. Wow! So impressive.

"... you'll be like another member here and have a H

If that's me, Keith, I'll take a harem any day, but I only use three with any regularity: The "Noge" the Tag, and the Visi. I mean, how may wringers can you have? (smiling). Only seven, (with shyness)

LOOKING GOOD JIM!

Congratulations!! You'll soon rival Geoff's Harum. I saw a nice N the other day on EBay but they wanted $400.00 and it didn't compare to yours.

My E2LP is still washing away flawlessly. Almost 6 months now already and I'm lovin' it! Especially the pump. Best $45.00 I spent on the refurbishing.

Pump as strong as a fire truck! Solution....

Hey Jim ... I know what you mean about the strength of those Maytag pumps! On both my Maytag E2LP and the Kenmore, I put a 6-inch length of flexible hose clamped onto the gooseneck. That way, it extends farther into the sink, and I have no problem with splashing.

Thanks Brad,

I am going to Lowes today and will buy a section of hose. I will try anything once but will never try emptying with the pump again like Monday LOL. I wondered about using the pump after I had the hose hooked to it running down the floor drain. I was afraid it would overpower the floor drain also LOL. She is a beauty. I would have rather had an E but could not pass this one up. My E will suffice. I never thought I would be able to find a new one. Thanks go to Chris for finding her on his Craigs List. I am still jealous of Geoff tho LOL. Best to all and thanks again Brad.

Jim

Now about

this harem (however you spell it LOL). I am plum out of room at present to have more than my 4 gals. Having a new one really spoils you when you look at well used ones. However, would I pass up another great gal to bring home? I doubt it !!!!!

Best,
Jim

...about the harems...

It appears there are several Sultans of Splash among us!

Aw, what the heck, it's a harmless hobby! Washerboys unite.

In the meantime ~

Before any surgery, John reminded me that you can open the pump kind of half way by moving the lever slowly toward the ON position but not going all the way. I had forgotten about this. Leave to John.

His grandmother had to drain her E2LP into a short "vegetable sink." And after the first flash flood, he experimented with the pump lever.

His story recalled something I had forgotten. When experimenting with underflow rinsing a few years ago, I learned the same trick so that the incoming overflow water could keep up with the pump, which would only work if I slowed that ever eager hose down.

John said his grand mother did this for years and years without any damage to the pulley, wheels, etc.. He explained how and why it works just last night, but I've already forgotten. LOL Maybe later I'll remember.

I wondered

about doing this Mikeyd. It is certainly worth a try. Brad had a good idea about a hose extension that he uses on his. I am willing to try anything to avoid a flood again and use the pump. Thanks for all the info guys !!

Best,

Jim

Pic of my hose extension on the gooseneck...

Hello again, Jim,

Here's a pic of the hose extension I rigged up - clamped it right onto the goose-neck so that it extends down into the sink.

I couldn't find appropriate hose at Lowe's or Home Depot - so I went to a hose distributor and was able to buy just a short length, enough to do my Kenmore wringer drain hose as well.
