Pump as strong as a fire truck! Solution....

Hey Jim ... I know what you mean about the strength of those Maytag pumps! On both my Maytag E2LP and the Kenmore, I put a 6-inch length of flexible hose clamped onto the gooseneck. That way, it extends farther into the sink, and I have no problem with splashing.

I am going to Lowes today and will buy a section of hose. I will try anything once but will never try emptying with the pump again like Monday LOL. I wondered about using the pump after I had the hose hooked to it running down the floor drain. I was afraid it would overpower the floor drain also LOL. She is a beauty. I would have rather had an E but could not pass this one up. My E will suffice. I never thought I would be able to find a new one. Thanks go to Chris for finding her on his Craigs List. I am still jealous of Geoff tho LOL. Best to all and thanks again Brad.

this harem (however you spell it LOL). I am plum out of room at present to have more than my 4 gals. Having a new one really spoils you when you look at well used ones. However, would I pass up another great gal to bring home? I doubt it !!!!!

In the meantime ~

Before any surgery, John reminded me that you can open the pump kind of half way by moving the lever slowly toward the ON position but not going all the way. I had forgotten about this. Leave to John.

His grandmother had to drain her E2LP into a short "vegetable sink." And after the first flash flood, he experimented with the pump lever.

His story recalled something I had forgotten. When experimenting with underflow rinsing a few years ago, I learned the same trick so that the incoming overflow water could keep up with the pump, which would only work if I slowed that ever eager hose down.

John said his grand mother did this for years and years without any damage to the pulley, wheels, etc.. He explained how and why it works just last night, but I've already forgotten. LOL Maybe later I'll remember.

I wondered

about doing this Mikeyd. It is certainly worth a try. Brad had a good idea about a hose extension that he uses on his. I am willing to try anything to avoid a flood again and use the pump. Thanks for all the info guys !!

Hello again, Jim,

Here's a pic of the hose extension I rigged up - clamped it right onto the goose-neck so that it extends down into the sink.

I couldn't find appropriate hose at Lowe's or Home Depot - so I went to a hose distributor and was able to buy just a short length, enough to do my Kenmore wringer drain hose as well.
