After 'lurking' on here for a number of years I thought I would bite the bullet and join This is such a great group and I have met at least one of your members (Austin) who I met during an eBay sale and who kindly helped get my Hotpoint Supermatic spinner working. Thought you would enjoy some photos of my collection so far. We've recently had a new Utility room built and (much to my wife's dismay) my collection has spilled from the garage However, she does love the recent addition of the Maytag even if she doesn't admit it! I love my Servis Supertwin and also the wringerless Countess which was a recent find. That and the Spinarinse is the set my Nan had when I was small before she got a Hotpoint Supermatic De Luxe in 1994.

Anyway, hope that you enjoy. Look forward to enjoying your fantastic collections as a member.

Kevin, welcome!! Glad you finally broke down and joined. A very nice collection of appliances and models. The fridge that's to the right of the Maytag, is that also a vintage model? It's a very pleasant shade of blue. How did you find that Maytag. It's the top of the line model here in the U.S. I'm extremely impressed you have that. The item that's in photo #3 that's between the Hoovermatic Deluxe and the Hotpoint, is that a dishwasher? I love your new utility room.

Thanks Bob, the fridge is actually a modern fridge but vintage style. The room used to be a conservatory and the blue colour matched the decor at the time. The Maytag I've only had a couple of weeks, it was an eBay find, a 240v model that I'm told came from a large house in London with very little use. I've been researching and discovered from here that it was a T.O.L in the U.S. really pleased to have it.

The item in the utility is a dishwasher, we do have one in the kitchen too but I wanted a second vintage one for when we have people over, greedy I know I think it's a 1983 model from the Hotpoint range. The Hotpoint top loader was in there too so I'd bought them all to match but since we got the Maytag I've retired the Hotpoint to the garage for a while.

You have a great laundry room with a fab range of washers and probably one of the rarest washers in the UK, The Hotpoint Wringerless Countess washing machine,

You all have some fabulous collections, I can see how easy it is to acquire more. Everytime I say this is the last one but of course it never is! That Countess was a lucky eBay find earlier this year. It was the sellers Nans machine, he and his wife then had it from their wedding in the early 70's and then it went into retirement in a cupboard from 1980, has the manual and everything! Just needed the pump freeing up and it works like a dream, mint condition really.

I'll make sure I post on the twin tub thread as I really enjoyed that. My Nan had an Acme Challenge in the early 60s it was long gone by the time I arrived of course, she could never remember exactly what it was until one day she was turning out a cupboard and found the manual which I have and will post. I was always interested in what it was like but it seems it wasn't very strong and was soon replaced with a Supertwin MK2!

Like so many of you I gave loads of stories about the machines family members have used. But, it was definitely washday with my Nan and her Countess and Spinarinse that first gave me the bug. I'm sure my parents despaired lol

Welcome to the forum and love the washroom - plenty of space for machines to take over! LOL.
They have a tendency to breed unless you keep them in check.

Pleased to see that one of the button control 'New Generation' Hotpoint dishwashers is preserved. 71360?
Another collector managed to save a 71340 a few years ago, so just a 71350 that needs saving.

Echoing Mike's comments, it is also good news that you managed to save a wringerless Countess - they are really rather rare. Can I ask a favour - can you confirm the two letter model code for this machine?
Unheated with wringer was 'KA' and heated with wringer was 'KB', but I have never found out what model code the wringerless model went by.

As I am detecting a little bit of a penchant for Hotpoint, I have attached a picture of my 95842 (courtesy of ebay) and 93732 (courtesy of Mark Kightley) ..... nothing like a bit of Spring Almond

Thanks for your message, yes I do have a fondness for Hotpoint, that dishwasher was only £20 and had sat in a kitchen virtually unused since it was installed. So handy when we have lots of dishes but people can't believe that we have two lol. I'm sure some more appliances will creep in at some stage

The Countess, I've taken a photo of the rating plate along with some more photos of the machine and it starts with KB but then another A adjacent but slightly lower in the row. You'll see what I mean from the pics. My Nan had a later model (I think she got it in 1974) it had the blue detailing and cream switches. I was always playing with them as a small child when it was under the work surface as they were just my height lol. I recall that there was some rust around them where the paint had flaked off. This and the Spinarinse got a lot of use until the Hotpoint Supermatic was purchased. They were still working and stored in a cupboard but junked some years later. I often wondered why Nan had gone to a single tub and spinner after having a Servis Supertwin but it was because she had an Indesit installed when the Servis went wrong (an L5) perhaps? It was hooked up to the taps and family stories are that she had it on all day trying to wash a few towels as she kept turning the water off (obviously autos were still a relatively new concept then) hence the Indesit was returned and she had whatever they could offer her quickly lol. She stayed loyal to her twin tub for years afterwards.

Here are the pictures as promised, if only I could replicate the scent of old Ariel. That memory from her kitchen on Washday, I can imagine it now if I think about it.....Enjoy!

Many thanks for the photos and for confirming the model code of your Countess - most definitely wasn't expecting KBA.

My Countess was one of the earliest machines that I acquired many years ago for the princely sum of £12 and is from the later blue range that you mentioned. I don't know exactly when the colour scheme changed, but my machine was built in April 1967 (date code '64').
