On the weekend, we had some visitors down in Ogden and they got to see (correction: they asked to see...) the slightly scary loft above the garage where most of the dishwasher collection lives.  But one of them asked a question about older dishwashers that I didn't know the answer to...  When did the first multi-cycle pushbutton dishwasher appear?

My first thought was 1960 (thinking of the GE SU70 models with 4 pushbutton cycles) and even Hubby chimed in citing some 1961 KitchenAid literature I have.  However I seem to recall seeing a Waste King machine from the late 50s with cycle selection buttons in old BH&G Kitchen Planning magazines.  I then looked back here in the archives at the ultra-rare 1958 Hotpoint that surfaced last year in Minnesota and I swear it had a couple of cycle selections...

My glib answer was 'early 1960s' but I'd like to know what the real date was.

Our Waste King (that's been a POD for a Christmas present) that we got in 1960 or 1959 that had Full Cycle, Pots/Pans, and Rinse & Hold buttons.
