Fisholow De Luxe Tumble Dryer bought 28th November 1967. Used weekly since then and still working. Original envelope with Installation & Operating Instructions. Would need to collect from WN8 in the UK.

WOW

That is the same as the dryer we had when I was a kid.
Our was made in Australia, badged as an Astor, but it was the same.

The two knobs with the red centre are identical, ours had a smaller "dashboard" just a chromed rectangle around the two knobs, no fake wood grain. The door handle was a chrome lever. The exhaust air blows through a filter screen inside the door, through the hollow door panel and exits via a tube to the rear of the dryer. Very easy to clean the screen.
I had forgotten all about this dryer, your photo brought childhood memories back.

Astor version

Here is a promotional video for Choice magazine, the Aussie consumer magazine.
It shows a man who bought an Astor dryer based on a recommendation in Choice magazine 45 years ago. It is still going strong.

the dryer in the video is newer than the one we had when i was a child, but it is still based on that same machine. The lever door handle in the video is the one on our Astor.

Fisholow Bendix

Yes its very well made, all enamel coated and pressed steel, don't make them like that now. The airflow is good, large belt driven fan on the back, will get some innards shots soon, No gas versions where ever offered the only company that did that was White Knight in the late 80`s.

Vented was the first and best choice for many years, the last decades have seen condensers overtake them but IMHO not for other than you couldn't get a vent hose to go through a window or fixed outside etc.

Certainly many collectors prefer and use vented still. Those drying racks are still widely used ha ha but onto the market we now see Heat Pump dryers making a foothold because prices are falling !!

Well I made a visit to collect the Fisholow today, turns out it was only 30 mins from me, delighted to hear the story of the dryer with Mark and his Mum, always a pleasure to hear how these appliances where bought, looked after and are still in use !!

Mark heres a few photos of washers you mum was describing perhaps it was one of these ??
