After several years of happiness my favorite blender, the "daily driver," is out of commission. It's definitely been through a lot. The carafe had gotten a chip here and there around the lip, and once when I plugged it in with the lid inside the carafe it was accidentally on "low," so it has its battle scars, but it matches the rest of my vintage GE kitchen and I've come to like it. And the last straw happened the other day: the gears were stripped!

I think the only answer to fixing it is to find another glass carafe that will fit it. Is there any other "fix" for a stripped gear on a blender?

And does anyone know where I might even find such a part, outside of eBay and Goodwill? It's General Electric cat. no. 12BL-2.

Ebays your best bet. Those are nice little blenders.. just make sure if you do get one to get the glass jar and not the plastic one.

You know I've never opened mine up to see what's inside.. but I've always assumed that those low profile GE blenders have a belt drive.. Maybe it just needs a new belt?

Ebay

I just sold one I had on ebay for S15.50.  The square drive on the motor is what usually shears making it a near impossible repair.

I love the low profile of those GE's.  I'm going to have to keep an eye out for one.  It appears the avocado one pictured doesn't offer a pulse option like the earlier models.
