Fixing kdg606

Hi,I am trying to to repair a maytag kdg606. It is shutting off before clothes dry. The diagram on the dryer is very brown, hard to read. I do see regulating thermostat and cool off thermostat in the top of the diagram. Both show normally closed. On the bottom of the diagram it shows the regulating thermostat and cool down thermostat that has three connections. I believe mine is the cool off thermostat with 2 connections. My problem is that I can't read any of the number on the thermostats. I find it odd that when tested the one is open until I put heat to it (normally open or broken? ).with out being able to read any part # or temperature ranges I am at a loss. I think if I had the temperature ranges for each thermostat I could get it drying properly. Thanks for any help Joe.

I actually have the same dryer but I converted my Maytag KDG606 to a DG306 since the electronic dry control wasn’t working properly and I didn’t feel like going through the trouble to fix it so I just put a 306 timer in it. I have no issues with mine at all but there are a couple of rattles I need to fix and once those are all fixed it would be very quiet in operation once all the rattles are fixed.

Maytag DE&G 806 & 606 Dryers

The thermostats will not cause it to shut off too soon, one thermostat is the cool down thermostat and it is normally open if it is under about 120F. The other is an operating TS and cycles the heat on and off around 145F and the safety TS cuts off the heat at around 180F.

 

There are many reasons that these dyers may not cut off properly, hopefully you have found the many great posts about these dryers that will help you find and fix the cause of the problem.

In the thread about the Maytag A606 and KDG606 I acquired back in March, AW user QSD-DAN did say he had a couple of gas HOH dryers come through and he said everyone had a weak hi limit thermostat that would cycle it below the operating thermostat, and the only conclusion he came up with was the constant burning pilot lights play a role in weakening the bimetallic metal inside the thermostat.

Another thing too is if the belts aren’t adjusted properly it can cause the high limit thermostat to heat up since not enough air is getting pulled through the burner causing it to kick off the burner until it cools off.
