I noticed something while watching the debate last night (no, not that shaved headed ex-Navy guy in the front row . . . well, OK yes, HIM--and the guy next to him--wouldn't they make a nice couple?) that reminded me of something I saw on my last visit to Mexico. Stick with me here, and some of you who have driven in Mexico may have noticed this also.

In an effort I can only presume is aimed at enhancing the level of driver safety, traffic signals begin to flash towards the end of the green cycle as a warning that the signal will soon be changing to yellow. Huh? Why not just eliminate the yellow then? Who got that approved? Still, I found this to be a delightful example of over-engineering and have since described a few choice workplace procedures as "flashing green" syndrome.

My jaw dropped when I saw this same phenomenon while watching the debate last night! WTF?

So guys and gals, I'd like to hear other examples of "flashing green syndrome" you've seen or experienced, on an appliance in particular but just out there in general. I'm already anticipating at least one DMV story.
