Good Morning:

I just bought at a yard sale a set of Flavorite Cookware. It has the triangular shaped knobs. I went on the web and inquired. Up came Untited Cookware, but the style has changed and no mention was made of Flavorite. It says Thermium Multi-Plex Stainless Steel. It's in pretty good shape. Needs a little cleaning, but doesn't appear to have been abused. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Thanks.

West Bend/Regal Ware. Most brands of direct-sales cookware are made by only a few "prime" manufacturers, who produce to the specifications of the company they're making products for.

Direct-sales cookware is often very good cookware, but not normally good enough to justify the stratospheric prices charged. Today's tri-ply bottoms and tightly-fitting lids found on all but the cheapest cookware have removed much of the quality advantage direct-sales brands used to enjoy.

Direct-sales companies also go into and out of business with fair regularity, meaning that their "lifetime guarantees" often become worthless. Even when a company is still around, there are often handling, processing and other fees associated with warranty claims. Parts can also be a problem.

My personal choice for cookware has been the old aluminum-clad Farberware, which was also a favorite of the late James Beard, who long claimed it was the best cookware for the money he'd found. The great thing about old Farberware is that it's reasonably easy to find, and replacement handles and knobs are as close as your computer's keyboard.

I am not knocking your find. Enjoy it for what it is, and be glad you didn't pay what some poor soul probably paid to obtain it new. [this post was last edited: 9/22/2012-12:50]

$20 for six pieces including lids. And like I said it is in pretty good shape. The handles and knobs don't looked stressed like there was any oven use. Just needs a good cleaning, but then I have been called a clean freak!

I too have several old pieces of Farberware that I love and I agree with what you said totally. Just couldn't pass this up!

Thank you for your comments.

danemodsandy is correct! Flavorite was made by Regal Ware in Kewaskum, Wi. Most Regal brands have parts available in fact they have knobs and handles for Flavorite on their website. I have had Regal cookware Over 40 years. They still make fine products.

I couldn't believe it either. The box had $20 written on it and I asked was that for all of it. The people having the sale seemed to want to get rid of the everything as quickly as possible. Someone got a really old vaccum cleaner with attachments that I was interested in, but before I could get over there a couple had scoopted it up! Next time I will take someone with me cash in hand!
