Jon, water didn't get *in* Granny's house, just the rear storage shed, the separate garage (which is actually on the lot next door that belongs to my parents), and the carport on front of the house. The utility area where the F&Ps are is the rear 1/3 of the carport that was enclosed some years ago. I didn't observe the level directly at the peak, but the debris lines indicate it would have taken two to three more inches to actually get into the house.
We were lucky. Other houses in the neighborhood that are on foundations instead of blocks did flood, as well as many other areas around town. Granny is on the east side of town. A business on the west side suffered 14", and the Middle School on the south side had 8 to 10" and is not expected to be cleaned-up to resume classes until after Christmas.
Yes, the F&P washer's motor was submerged, and I'm sure the dryer's was as well. And both of the KAs in the garage, not to mention my Superba dishwasher that is stored there. There was no water in the F&P dryer drum, but there was water in the KA dryer drum, due to differences in the construction. I don't plan on trying to run the F&Ps for at least a week, if not longer. I'm concerned that the GWL08 was still plugged in while submerged, and there is a degree of power applied to the motor, even when the machine is turned 'off.' I assume the SmartDrive motor is designed with safety features against water in case of a center seal leak, for example . . . but it remains to be seen what are the effects of the water. I'm sure the KA will have an odor from the sound insulation, that water was nasty/dirty coming across from the field next door. I'm wondering about taking off the cabinet and flushing it with clean water?
There was a similar flood some years ago, I think in 1994. It wasn't as bad all over town as this one, but about the same effect on the east side. Granny still had the Design 2000 and the 1972 Whirlpool dryer at that time, and both were submerged to about the same degree as now. Both of them ran perfectly fine after a good wait for drying out. They were still running in 1999 (five years later) when the KAs moved in.
