Well, Launderess, it is old stock in the box!! Seems to attract high prices lately.

I was watching that one myself, and was shocked to see where the price ended up.
At least the seller didn't try to part it out....
the box would be in one auction
the power cord would be in another auction
the lid would be in another auction
each handle would have it's own auction
and finally whatever is left over would be in a auction with a sky high starting bid!
And let's not forget the possibility of gouging on the shipping cost!

I saw a C-30 Coffeemaster new in the box a few weeks ago that went for around $90, from what I remember.
Just depends on who sees it and how badly they want it.

Well my Sunbeam C50 was MIB and came with tons of extra goodies as well, but only gave $45 or so including shipping.
Was going to take this unit and put it away as a back-up in case the current unit fails, but went off the idea. Wasn't until after the auction ended that I saw how much the unit finally cost. Mind you up until an hour or so before the auctioned ended bidding was around $30. Guess no one bids up front anymore, and everyone snipes.
NOS is not always it is made out to be either. Sometimes things have been sat sitting because they do not work, and or were "rejects". For appliances really like to see at least the seller plugged an item in and it "worked".

I've been wanting a C-50 for quite some time now.
I have two C-30s that are near mint and work great except for the fact that one has a broken seal and the other one has a nice soft seal, it imparts a terrible rubber taste to the coffee. The first one I had didn't do that.
So a C-50 looks like what I'm looking for.
Now that a C-50 has gone astronomical on pricing, I imagine more of them will be popping up on Ebay soon enough.

IIRC Sunbeam produced the C-50's well into the late 1960's or early 1970's so yes, there should be a decent supply lying about spare.
One reason many C-50's either are MIB or were used only once or twice, then put away and forgotten, is the fact that it does take some "tweaking" on technique to get a good brew. Units heat up very hot and are so heavy that it does take forever for the lower pot to cool enough to draw down the coffee from the upper chamber. So long in fact one can end up with burnt tasting and or over brewed coffee.
Still, am not willing to pay $150 or so for a vintage unit, so guess I'll be joining you and sussing out flea markets/ estate sales or that eBay gem.

Look at the feedback rating of the buyer (1)- this is someone new to eBay. They'll learn to wait and snipe like everyone else.
