All the detergent discussions were so interesting that I made my first visit to a Dollar Store, and you were right: they have a ton of powder compared to elsewhere.

A sniffer all my life, I just can't stop and always search for the best smell. Often criticized as a kid by kooky non-blood relatives: "Why do you have to smell everything, what's wrong with you?" I was probably a dog in the last incarnation because I love them so much and smell--just like they do.

At the Dollar Store, there was a tag for Powdered Ultra Tide with Downy for six bucks, but the space was empty. I had only seen this flavor in the liquid version. Enquiring, I was told to come back Friday. So I did, at which time the tag had been removed, and no Tide with Downy delivered. The clerk said that they must be stopping production or ordering something else.

On my bicycle, I stopped at Walgreens and they had the Tide for just under ten bucks, and boy, did it smell good. But, I didn't buy. On my route was a "hidden around the corner" Dollar store which the clerk had told me to visit. They had a ton of it, the elusive Tide of my quest, tagged, "Last chance."

When I got to the register, I asked if the Tide would be marked down, eventually, since there were so many boxes that seemed on the rush list to get sold. He said maybe so, but to our mutual suprize the box rang up as 4.50, not the six dollar price as marked. BINGO. We were both joyous. I bought a box--all I could manage on the bike-- but will return in my car to buy a few more.

Got a load going as soon as I got home, of course. The smell is fresh, floral, tiny colored granules among the mainly white ones, pleasant traces of the fragrance remaining in the clothes. Dried outdoors, the laundry scent was evident and so pleasant indoors, even hours later, where I had left the load on top of the LK in the kitchen before putting it away.

At one point I got a rush of real Lilac. So there you go. The existing thread is too big for my computer. And Mr. Boilwash, they had Gain in something Hawaiian something or other, but not the cherished Mango.

PS: The powdered version does not smell at all like the liquid, not even close, as you would expect; it's way nicer.

So thanks to all you soap people for inspiring me to shop on the cheap. Nothing better.
