Here's what a WA-1250D Programmed Washer looks like.

 

What's remarkable and unique about the 1968 TOL is that they inserted translucent plastic areas for the black/white text areas of the control panels so when the machine was operating, the fluorescent lighting for the canopy light also shone through those areas making the control panel text pop; very cool and very user friendly. AFAIK, that was the only year they did this, after 1968 they reverted to ordinary opaque embossed metal zones on the metal panel:

Money shot. Unfortunately I was unable to save the tub...it was very rusty along the entire circumference of the tub, and was rusting through in spots. What's weird is that the main tub & underside of the top are rust free. No other area has any rust so I'm not sure what caused it. It was a shame to have to get rid of the tub.

Love this machine! R u planning to replace the tub with another turquoise, or do u have one already on hand? The turquoise tub and straight 8 vane agitators r probably almost my favorite. Would love to own 1 one of these days.

That's a gorgeous coppertone 1969 machine; the giveaway is the  B&W "Heavy-Duty 16" shield right over the selections buttons. I'd love to find some literature on 1969 models; the next year they introduced their so-called 18-lb. machines and model number prefixes changed from WA to WWA.

 

Replace that green Straight-6 Activator with a Spiral-Ramped one and your machine with turn over the load much more quickly. Do you have the liquid detergent dispenser that it came with?

Detergent dispenser

I didn't know there was a detergent dispenser, how does it work?

It's a liquid detergent dispenser to be used with the Pre-Wash cycle of the washer. It looks just like the fabric softener dispenser pictured above except it would be dark turquoise or white. The user would charge it with liquid detergent to be spun out and dispensed in the Main Wash (user would use their regular detergent in the lint filter for the pre-wash).

 

It was a lame set-up because the user then wouldn't be able to use the fabric softener dispenser, negating the whole concept (except for the dim-witted) of not having to come back to the machine before the wash is done. Later, in 1972, GE created a wacky and wonderful powdered detergent dispenser that looked like the Jupiter 2 from "Lost in Space", used in pretty much the same way. But, more importantly, they re-introduced their wonderful solenoid-operated timed automatic fabric softener dispenser that added the softener in the last rinse, no matter what. We had one of these machines and it would have been a check-rated model if not for the lame Straight-8 Activator (pictured above) that didn't work very well and creaked loudly during agitation.

 

The matching dryer, a DDE-7900N was the best dryer I've ever used.

Here's a collection of pictures that I hand to used appliance dealers to keep an eye out for me. This is the powdered detergent dispenser (it was only offered for a couple of years and I haven't seen one in person since 1975):

The one on the left is the liquid detergent dispenser, the one on the right is the Jet-Swirl FS dispenser. Sorry, I have neither photos of the timed dispensers nor do I have videos of any of them doing their thing. Maybe someone else will post them.

Believe it or not I actually just googled dispensers for ges' and I found the pic of the powdered detergent dispenser u posted and was about to post it and ask what it was and how it works "hopin u had the answer lol". The washer that has the powdered detergent dispenser in it looks like a dispensall model but dispensall models has the dispensall tank where the softener, bleach etc. goes into I think. Not exactly sure what components a dispensall washer has but I always thought it was just the tank that connects to the bottom of the lid. Ge filter flos and hotpoint rim flos r by far my favorite machines and surprisingly I don't have a lot of knowledge of the dispensall models. Would love to see one operate, I don't recall ever seeing one in person.

Hi Ken! Yes, that is the model number for my machine! I can't thank you enough! I appreciate the model history, too.

The machine came without the mini-basket or filter (major bummer!). Also, as I mentioned I was unable to save the tub, or the agitator. I had to cut the agitator out because it was so frozen to the shaft. The good news is that I found a black spiral agitator on ebay and a filter pan, so I should be up and running the end of the week. I'll post some additional pictures then.

Regarding the detergent dispenser, my mom's 1972 GE Programmed Washer came with one, but she never used it. I always thought it looked like a space ship!
