France forcing appliance manufacturers to inform customers

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Good.

Trouble is:

-Is an 11K (pound) fine going to mean anything for the manufacturer?
-How many consumers will pay for longevity, or the ability to receive spare parts?

I think buyers should at least be able to know, without finding out the hard way. What they do with that information can't readily be predicted.

JMO, but as I see it buyers as a whole aren't very astute or sellers wouldn't have gotten away with what they have so far in terms of sacking value and replacing it with useless 'features', aesthetics, or the pitch "this product will do everything while using nothing".

Good Idea

Maybe the public will think differently about an appliance before buying it, it will certainly make manufacturers stand up and be counted, I have always thought that predicted longevity should be factored in when handing out "ECO" labels on machines.

I would not be surprised if retail prices start to rise as a result, but if that reflects the cost of quality then so be it.

I hope it works out.

This is an awesome idea!

It would be great if they could do something like this in the USA.
