Free J2LP

Emailed the seller and asked if there were any takers. He responded "no" and the next step was the scrap yard. Needless to say, I'm the owner of a J2LP now with a rounded out EJN collection. 8 minutes off the truck and it was earning its keep washing and double rinsing 3 loads of laundry. Zero oil leaks from the transmission seals, horizontal shaft, and no water leaks of any kind. It runs as quiet and smooth as my E2LP I recently replaced the the belt on. I love working on these but it's nice to get an old appliance the needs no attention and works without any surprises.
A pic of it resting. I threw all 3 loads together in the DG713 and it's still running almost 3 hours later.

If I were to get another wringer washer, this would be the square-tub model I would want. I am so glad & happy that you ended up picking this beauty up & saving it!

Thanks for the kind words. These 18 gallon porcelain square tub models are really great for worry free washes without concerns of chemical assisted tarnishing. The E's are touted to be the best at retaining heat but the J did a superb job at this task while soaking for 2 hours to let the oxygen bleach work its magic. This combo would darken my cast and spun aluminum tub models.
Now the goal is to prevent the collection from procreating any further. This is the 5th wringer I've saved from the grips of destruction in just over a year and 10 wringers is too much for even a certified lunatic.

Wow - nice save, Dan! You are spot on with the pluses of the J vs the E. As much as I like the looks of the E, the J is really where it's at in terms of no worry clean-up and tarnishing of the wash tub.

Checked listed a day or so ago and was shocked no one took up the offer of a free Maytag wringer. On this side of USA that washer would have been gone within hours of listing; I should know as lost out on a couple of nice machines that were being given away locally.
Am pea green that your new washer is good to go out of the gate. Mine leaks from the pump, not sure about the transmission, but am not seeing any oil marks on floor underneath.
In honor of your new arrival will get out mine this week and put her through some paces. Have been so busy with the Lavamat toplader haven't really bothered.
Yes, one reason wanted the porcelain tub of the "J" was that it is immune to chemicals used on laundry day, and won't react with things like oxygen bleach. So yes doing a nice soak is fine.
Did you look up the serial number to get a bead on manufacture date?

Ben: It's fun to be back and share some of my experiences. It's great acquiring and working on these old machines but the excitement is magnified exponentially when shared with others.
Laundress: Thanks for being part of the cheer squad The pump bearing(s) on my 1953 E2LP I rescued last year are a little dry and noisy and I think it may leak a few drips from the shaft seal when engaged. The wringer was bit apprehensive engaging in either direction but I fixed that. Then the tub to pump hose decided to leak. A new one finally showed up on Ebay and got installed along with a new belt for good karma. Halfway through the victory load the drain hose decided to split near the pump connection. Can't blame her the incontinent issues at her age but it would be nice to accomplish at least one load without any drama from that machine. At least the newly installed 3 prong cord should keep any electrifying incidents to a minimum.
