What's with the all white graphics on the washer timer? That's essentially my 1978 GE washer except mine had 3 speed combos and the multi-colored graphics on the timer like on the dryer.

Bob, I would think they use the colors on the timer to coordinate with the push buttons on the left. The push buttons were supposed to reference a particular type of FABRIC.
This washer has the toggles, instead of the buttons, which merely designate speeds and temps. The colors on the dial would be relatively meaningless, in this case.
I'm guessing you had a more deluxe model with the push-buttons? Although, I've seen the toggles with the 3 speed selector switch: Fast/fast("Normal" wash), fast(wash)/slow (Permanent Press ?), and slow/slow (Delicates).
I always thought the middle one should be slow(wash)/fast(spin). That was nearly always the speed selection I chose when using a GE FF.

Delaney, the color coordinated description you gave applied to the dryer. But this washer didn't have coordinated colors in its timer dial and I've seen extremely few like this and this is the first with this high up the line model. Mine had color coordinated timer dial with my dryer. Maybe these weren't purchased together. And actually, only the programmed TOL washer had the color coordinated lettering by the buttons for the appropriate cycle on the timer dial.
this 'stainless look' type panel was in between the change over from wood grain into the colored cycle match models......I think it only ran a year or two...

They aren't a matched set. The graphics don't match. The hoods are different-washer simply has GE in center, dryer has wording on each end. The trim colors around the three sections is different on each one. All the lettering on the washer is white on a black background. On the dryer some letters are colored. Even the typeface and spacing is different.
The washer looks like a Kmart special. I'm not sure exactly when Kmart stopped selling major appliances in the early 80s, but I do remember going to Kmart around '82, or so, and seeing a model very similar to this washer and loving the toggles.

Lawrence, thank you. THIS dryer would be the perfect match to the washer that's the main subject. Interesting, the regular and perm press/knits dry cycles are flipped in position on this dryer than what mine was.
