Watching "The Last Movie Stars" and there is a clip of Joanne Woodward opening the freezer  with a pull down door, looking for ice.  On the left side there is an ice-maker, this was a typical rounded off design fridge from the '50s, just surprised to see an ice maker.  Any idea of what the fridge was? Had WP already bought the patent?

“No Down Payment” was filmed from April 15, 1957 to June 1957 according to IMD. I still say that the fridge in the scene where JoAnne Woodward asks “where is the ice” is a Servel. I don’t think that Whirlpool would have put an ice maker in a single door model with a freezer compartment.

And thanks Patrick for the clarification about the patent. In effect Whirlpool did buy the patent by buying the whole company outright, so I was on the right track, just had the details wrong.

BTW, “No Down Payment” is a pretty good movie. For those of us that were raised in the 50’s it gives a pretty good picture of suburban life during the 50’s and the pitfalls that our parents had to deal with. Lots of marital infidelity and highballs before dinner.
