Frigidaire 1-18 FREE

1985? Frigidaire 1-18, ONE owner. Original parts including Filter-Flo attachment. Has worked great for 4 months. Yesterday it decided to stop draining. Not mechanically inclined I am replacing rather than fixing.
Hate to drop off at dump when there are fans of this model. Good for parts or maybe it just needs new pump?

Your machine, unfortunately, isn't a General Motors-produced Frigidaire. It's dated after GM sold Frigidaire to WCI (White Consolidated Industries). The mechanism is different than the GM design that collectors seek. GM Frigidaire washers have an agitator that pulsates, moves vertically up-and-down. Yours oscillates back-and-forth.

Cool washer. westinghouse design probably from around 1985. "Real" 1-18s were made well into 1979 before replaced around late 1979 by this westinghouse design that is actually more 14-16 lbs effective capacity vs 18 of GM version. Bad lid lock/switch is a probable cause of no drain/spin and undersized clutch belt is something that can require attention. Build quality lower than actual GM 1-18s,but these are an M60 tank compared most current offerings.

Thank you for the info. Kinda glad it’s not the GE version since finding this one a new home would be a bit onerous.
I’ll remove the erroneous manufacture date.

Cheers for the virtual troubleshooting. I’ll give the latch a look see, however there was a slight “overheat” smell when attempting to drain. :/

I never had an issue with WCI top loaders, they seemed ok. Maybe not (nearly) the quality of a period Maytag or belt drive WP, but serviceable. Funny though, I'm not sure I've ever seen a washer or dryer that wasn't labeled "Heavy Duty" regardless of build quality. Sort of like nearly every commercial real estate agent labeling any property as "prime", even if it's a tire dump in a swamp.

Heavy Duty labeling wasn't so much a thing until probably in the 1970s. Maytag didn't label their machines as such until other brands began doing so. Customers wondered why Maytags aren't heavy duty so dealers were sent adhesive stickers to apply to the consoles. Tada, Maytags were then Heavy Duty!

The photo shop job isn't perfect, but ultimately I'd like all the squares around the knobs and timer to be of an equal size.

Of course there would be different models with more or less knobs/cycles/features.
