Frigidaire Affinity ATF8000FS1

I have had a Frigidaire Affinity ATF8000FS1 for about 16 months.
Today it stopped mid cycle with pause blinking.
I ran through the error code procedure and got E41.
Door lock problem. The booklet inside the washer suggests either bad door lock or control panel. Since it is out of warranty I ordered a new door lock (took 50 50 chance). Will let you know.
Apparently this is very common problem for the Frigidaire
washer and should be a recall. But the control panel often
fails. I like the washer but am afraid it will not last long. IF
you send for the repair man it is close to $300

Affinity washers

are great.I am not pointing any fingers but,the only time I see this occur is when the user(s) slam,instead of close the doors.They do not need slamming.Just a slight push to secure the latch.I don't know why people insist on slamming washer and refrigerator doors.I have a FriGEMore that came in for service a while back and the issue was both the door lock and dispensor tray had been slammed shut so hard against that they broke.The owner was (and stiill is) a moron.He claims that the door wouldn't shut unless it was slammed.That was because they'd pack the thing full not understanding that it was way over the limit.

But not always....I've babied my duet since the day I got it and it still needed a control board after about 16 months. Once that was replaced, I have had no problems. It seems door latch assemblies and control boards along with the spider are common on any brand of FL washer, aside from SQ and Miele.

Door lock

I agree that slamming the door is not good and never
really did that. But I don't see how that would contribute
to electrical failure. I have read that if you don't
get a 1500 ohm reading on the part it is defective.
I do see it could damage some of the plastic components.
I have a friend that has 2 Affinity washers. One has had no problems the other has had 2 door lock failures and a control board failure - so go figure. The old Bendix had a door lock that was a handle that you rotated 90 degrees and never failed.
Is the electric door lock a safety mandate? The truth is that the price on these is remarkably low but there are a few areas
where quality could be improved at a slight increase in price.

DOOR LOCK

I received the door lock part today from
Repairclinic.com. Enclosed is a photo of what
happened to the door lock. As you see it failed
due to poor design. The good news . Remove the
top with 2 screws on the back of the lid. Push back then lift top
Loosen the door lock with 2 screws where the
door lock is attached Where the two rectangular plastic ports are at the opening on the right . Remove old door lock
detach 3 wire harnesses then attach the wire harnesses to the new module and happily begin
to wash again ( unless it is the control module )
Do it yourself and save about $200.

The door on my Affinity seems to sag a bit and the plastic latch parts are always rubbing against each other. It doesn't require slamming, but it doesn't close easily either. It's about 16 months old too. I'll reserve any statements that would require knocking on wood--I have that little faith in my machine holding up.

I agree that these machines have one of the lowest price points among FL's for a reason. They are not made as well as most, but probably better than GE, which isn't saying much.
