Frigidaire Affinity Front Loader

After Christmas, I drove to Palm Springs, CA to usher in the new year with a friend. He has a Frigidaire Affinity front loader. Of course, I had to see it in action.
First, you could not even see any water in the bottom of the tub. It looked like a pile of wet clothes sloshing around in the tub.
Second, it takes forever to decide that the load is balanced enough to spin.
Third, the final spin was fast but noisy and the machine vibrated.
Fourth, my friend washed a load of white socks with hot water and bleach and the sock bottoms did NOT come clean. I certainly was not surprised with the lack of water in the machine.
The new machines may be fun to watch but I will stick with older machines, top loaders, and my Fridgemore where I adjusted the water level control to allow a decent amount of water in the tub.

They are nice looking and I do declare, the dryer with a glass window in the door is nice to have.

I suppose with a front-loader, a heater is just about mandatory.

I'd only take a 7000 series, not the 6000 series. It needs the heater for the whites to be white, ala the sanitary cycle.

My original Frigidaire front loader(made by Frigidaire for GE the Profile series)got all my whites white.My socks are 95% cotton not accrilic.When I had the accrilic ones,I had the same problem. They never got white especialy the bottom.I use the new Clorox "syrup" type chlorine bleach(HE)every other wash.I currently have the L.G.front loading washer.The one with the raised control panel in the back.It uses less water and does a great job getting clothes clean.It spins 1200 rpms.I only had a no spin problem when I washed a pull over shirt by itself.

I had a similar experience with my aunt's new Kenmore He2 washer. It used almost NO water, and it has the worst rinsing results I've ever seen in my entire life!!! I was washing 2 tablecothes that had gotten pop spilled all over them, the machine wasn't even turning them over! The tableclothes were just bobbing up and down, not a soap bubble or drop of water in site. It didn't even distribute the load after the wash to get out a tiny bit of water, it drained then started filling for the rinse. It used a bit more water in the rinse, of course, then the thing foamed up like no other! It drained out that rinse water then filled again without spinning for the final rinse, same thing, suds halfway up the window! Finally, it proceeded to drain the final rinse out and ramp up to speed, I had to rinse the things 4 more times before the water went clear, and I used an 1/8 inch of HE liquid detergent! Finally, after the thing was done, I took the tablecothes out and found the stains still there! AGH!!!!!!

I feel that all these eco-concerned people are causing washing machines to be built that do not clean as well. Perhaps some of those people who are concerned about water use in washers are still taking long showers, filling their pools, and watering their lawns.

I believe the Affinitys can be modified. I have a Frig (not that model) and it works/cleans great since I did an adjustment.

Ross & Jamie, that was exactly my experience with that machine. I'm glad that someone else saw that the machine did not spin between the wash and rinses. The amount of screwing around it does before the spin is like taking two weeks to pack for an overnight trip. I just can't believe what is on the market today. I would not buy anything unless I could watch a demonstration and that would probably kill the deal, but better to decide in the store than to have to fight to have it taken back after it's in the house. Having been somewhat disappointed with my Frigidaire FL, I decided to donate mine. I contacted a local nonprofit organization that had washers and dryers on its wish list. I figured this would be a perfect solution for everyone. They never even answered me.

Hi Tom. Glad to hear that I am not crazy about the washer not working well. I am tired of all those eco-bolsheviks crying about water usage or phosphates. After moving to Tucson 3 years ago, I had joined an Episcopal parish where people said that when I did church laundry (communion linens and vestments) I should be "eco friendly" and not use Mexican detergents. I left that parish a year ago and transferred to another parish where there are no complaints and everyone, especially the Rector are pleased that I am willing to do all the church laundry and that everything glistens, thanks to the miracle of phosphates.
When I am asked as to what washer I recommend, I always suggest top loading Whirlpool/Kenmore/Whirltag. Without water, where is the dirt going to go?

P.S. After I left the first parish, I received notes and phone calls to come back. No thanks. I received a Christmas Card from my original parish in New York saying that I am missed. It is ten years since I left New York. They still remember the job I did on the laundry. I am gone but not forgotten.

No, I mean they never even answered me to say whether they even wanted it. I still have it because I received no response from them one way or the other. I can only conclude that they either don't want it or are just too disorganized to be able respond to donation offers. Still, a reply of some sort would have been nice.
