I've been working on Frigidaire caps and rings and love the '58-'62 color combination. Frigidaire must have loved it too because their ad campaign during those years showed the agitator column in just about every ad they put out. I was lucky enough to be given a near pristine (Bojack generic) set to borrow for color reference while reproducing the cap and rings. Every original Frigidaire example of cap or rings that I have are in terrible shape to reference color.

Not believing that these Bojack cap and rings actually were produced to exact Frigidaire colors, some of the originals I had were "sacrificed" to obtain the real color. One of my yellow lint rings and one of my coral circulator rings were so bad, I filleted them open to obtain fresh rubber and color. I then took them to the local PPG auto paint shop and had them use their fancy scanning machine to "read" the color of the lint, circulator and '61 cap I sacrificed. I then had them scan the 3 Bojack examples and they converted all values to an RGB equivalent. The Bojack examples turned out to be very close! I then took the Bojack cap and rings to Homer's and had them scan and make paint samples, so I could make big color swatches to reference from, when mixing rubber resin and dyes to match.

I then started thinking my laundry room should be painted using these colors, being the true die-hard Frigidaire (*nut*) that I am! If anyone else would like the color formulas, here they are. Homer's can easily convert these back to gallon and quart sizes since they made these 1/2 pint sample sizes.

It is also good to see that Frigidaire has not abandoned these colors. This picture below is found on their current website under "Washers". The towels in their latest washer offering reuses these same classic colors, 56+ years later!!

Wow Bud!  You are doing a wonderful job on these!

If I hadn't mentioned this before, I'm interested in a set for my 59 Multi-Tragic, er Multi-Matic.... LOL

More Frigidaire colors ... don't forget the grey!

<span style="font-family: 'courier new', courier; font-size: 14pt;">I raced down to the basement this morning to unload the pressure pot and see how some of the stuff I put in there yesterday turned out.

'61-'62 cap - finally got the correct sheen! That took some trial and error ...

'52-'57 cap and '47- '57 upper ring. Both can be done in either black or grey depending on the year needed. I'm still working on the '56-'57 lower ring mold. The original ring I have has expanded over time. **DOES ANYONE HAVE A GOOD '56 LOWER I CAN BORROW?? PRETTY PLEASE!

Sorry, but my lighting and camera suck, making each pic look totally different in color.

Cheers!

Frigidaire Famous colors

WOW!!! And OMG. can not wait to see what is next. The colors you have been able to reproduce are so awesome, I can almost smell the Tide of the 50's and 60's. Tommy

Hippiedoll, my goal is ......

<span style="font-family: 'courier new', courier; font-size: 14pt;"> to reproduce all of these rings, caps and pulsators up thru '64. I have very nice originals to make molds from ... EXCEPT the '56-'57 lower ring and a '58-62 circulator ring. The ones I have lack good detail or have expanded over time.

Looky, looky, looky!

<span style="font-weight:bold;" 'courier new', courier; font-size: 12pt;">As mentioned above, one of the rings I had been looking for to make a mold of was the '58-62 coral circulator ring. I have 3 of them but all of them are pretty beat up with little detail left in the lettering or grossly out of shape.

Today, however, look what I got in the mail! A NOS example on loan to make the mold.

It is in such great condition, I questioned if it was for real since it is completely flat! I have zero experience with these rings being new, so I did not recognize that these rings come completely flat when not installed. All of my old rings are dried out and retain the cone shape they were in the last 55+ years, which we all are familiar with. Even the nice 3rd party - Bojack coral ring that is on loan to me has the cone shape built in already (ring to the far right), but has no lettering. Thinking this Bojack ring was the best I was going to get to make a mold from, I'm glad I hesitated in doing so. Having a nice ring but with no lettering isn't any fun!

Still not believing that this flat ring would look right when installed, I soaked it in hot water for a while and with some dish soap, worked it onto a '62 column. Low and behold, it was perfect in shape. Almost brought a tear to my eye. I can't wait to make a mold from this little jewel ....

WOOOO HOOOOO!!!

Very cool that someone lent you that brand new CIRCULATOR ring to make a mold from!

Your are doing such amazing work here!
I LOVE IT!

Interesting contrast ....

This picture shows how neoprene over time changes from supple to hard on the surface. Experimenting with old rings, I have found if you cut into them and expose fresh material within, it is still in great condition with good color. But on the surface, I am assuming bleach, detergent and simple 02 oxidation takes its toll. Once it becomes hard, abrasion from normal use appears to accelerate. Anything with an edge wears away. The surface also appears to shrink when it hardens leaving surface cracks when flexed. Check out the outer edge and lettering tops. Like ultra fine sandpaper over time has taken a lot of material from the outer edge making it much thinner, and squaring off the lettering. All this time I thought the lettering had square tops .... wrong. Just on the poor ring examples I have to make me think otherwise.

Just add gold chain

<span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">I was thinking of adding a heavy gold chain and wearing it around my neck the next time I step out! Well, second thought, maybe not. The explanation every time would get old.

For any of you that have the 65-69 Space Capsule agitator, you can greatly improve the lint away over flow rinsing by putting a yellow lint chaser ring on the agitator. It will rest very well at the top of the cutouts in the agitator and does not move around; no attaching necessary. When GM started advertising this agitator, they showed the overflow rinse water moving laterally across the tub, but in actuality, it mostly splashes up. If you have a lid with a gasket, that water gets under the gasket and causes rust. Using the lint chaser ring on the agitator eliminates the upward splashing and also makes watching the agitation less of a water dodging experience.
