Is it the use of chlorine bleach that can be related to bearing failure? Both my ASKO and Bosch owners manuals said the same thing...."The use of chlorine bleach is not necessary, nor is it recommended". The ASKO's 205 degree wash did clean better than using chlorine bleach, so that I was cool with, but the Bosch's 165 degree temp boost isn't enough so I do sometimes use Clorox. Just wondered if I am killing my machine?

lots of use

Mine=5 yrs,7 in household incl 3 women and baby,3 loads per day avg, loaded to gills,LOTS of towels, never missed a beat-no repairs of any kind.

I had one

I think it was a 1998 model, I bought it to replace the old worn out westinghouse stacked set in my condo. I had to have a stacked set, and there weren't too many front loaders in my budget to choose from at that time. It was my first (and only so far) experience with a front loader, and it really worked well. Never gave me any problems. Had to leave it behind when we sold the condo last year & now I have a kenmore TL that was in the house when we bought it. The TL is OK, but I really do miss that FL.

Joe,

I don't honestly know how sealed the bearing are nor to what extent chlorine bleach may cause damage.
I do know that every German and Italian machine I have ever had warns against the stuff...
My guess is that many Americans (most of whom relate suds with cleaning power) overdose these machines unless they are specifically warned not to.
As for chlorine bleach, I can't remember ever encountering a stain which an oxygen based bleach or enzymes could not eventually get rid of without fabric damage.
I avoid the stuff whenever possible.
Does anyone here have a concrete answer on the bearings/seals?
Obviously Sears was not making it up, there are enough cases to be found when you Google it...

Frigidaire bearing failures

When I bought the Kenmore/Frigidaire f.l. in'99, no one at Sears (or in the manual) warned against using bleach; the only warning was to avoid using too much detergent, The same goes for my new Duet.
