my grandmother had them, my mother had them: hers broke down sometime in the early 1980's. She was disheartened that this design was discontinued. Why was Jet Cone reciprocating agitator discontinued?

Will Frigidaire ever reintroduce it?

General Motors sold off the Frigidaire appliance line to White Consolidated around 1979 or '80. The appliance line then became a twin of the White-Westinghouse line. In the mid 80's, the Frigidaire brand was sold again, this time to Electrolux, who owns it to this day.

Unfortunately, the classic Frigidaire pulsating wash action is gone forever. Today's machines are Frigidaire in name only; they have nothing else in common with their highly-esteemed vintage lineage.

I did love the chugging sound

those pulsating Fridge washing machines made: the most efficient action for cleaning and avoiding tangled laundry in the drum too!! damn shame: if I had my own appliance company I would surely reintroduce this top-load up-and-down-agitator design and perhaps call it the Brown Pulsator 2500 Series or something. I presume the old Frigidaire Jet Cone patent is long expired. I hate these new-fangled swirling agitator machines!! Can I possibly get a good servicible old GM FD Jet Cone machine on the market mechanically restored to perfection?? Boy, must be a real collectible!!

absolutely

there are plenty out there and some in excellent condition too! I have a 1967 Custom Imperial model that my wife thinks works better than our 4-year old Kenmore Calypso. AND...I received it in trade for a 1959 Frigidaire Custom Imperial which works as good as it did back in 1959, right Rich?

Shredmore Type Agitators

Seems as though there are several name brand and off brand models that sport that swirlly or tornado like "shredmore" kind of an agitator in one variation or the other.--Laundry Shark

love the jet cone

I have a 65 deluxe model with the roller-matic transmission and the jet cone agitator that was my grandmothers that i got when she passed away. It has been in use since she bought it new back in '65. I just put a new agitator, oil and water bellows, and transmission rollers in it just to make sure that it keeps on chugging along for another 42 years. (Thaks Rich / Trainguy for suppling the parts! ) My wife had a Whirlpool Imperial 70 model that she bought before we got married and prefers to use the Frigidaire over the Whirlpool. Now if i can just find a '67 or '68 rapid-dry model i'd be happy. (Oh, a 70's model 1-18 would be sweet too! ) :-)
