I am working on my Frigidaire unimatic wo-65-2 and I was wondering how to get the pulsator out of the machine.

Also the tub has some surface rust on the inside and I was wondering what I could do about it because I am not crazy about leaving my clothes rub against rust.

Thanks-

Though I known nothing that could help you, I'd like to express my thanks that you are working to preserve this machine, and admiration that you have the persistence to do so.

I am putting this washer in my basement to do laundry with. I would really like to know what to do about the rust because I do not want it to get all over my clothes. Also I want to stop any possible rust that could create a hole in the tub.

Thanks,
Jesse

Removing the Pulsator

There is a long screw in the middle of the pulsator - Unscrew that screw and remove the top portion. You will see another short flat bolt that needs to be unscrewed. Once this is undone you can remove the pulsator. As far as the rust goes several people here have treated tubs with rust so one of them will need to advise you on how to accomplish this.

I use that stuff in my auto collision repair class. Have Lacquer thinner handy and if you get the POR-15 on you, wipe it with the thinner. Also use the worst clothes you have. Lacquer thinner works to a lesser extent on fabric but make sure you leave your clothes to evaporate a while before you consider washing them. You want to make sure that there isn't any residue that could catch fire in the dryer.

POR-15 is about the best there is for coating rust. It will not stick for long to intact porcelain, it literally peels right off as it needs bare metal to bond with properly.

I use a small artist type brush sold in multipacks in the kid's art supplies, then toss it when finished. Wear latex, etc. gloves when using, easy clean up, no chemicals.

Rust

I am going to assume you mean rust on the porcelain washbasket which would rub on the clothes.I would remove that with hot water and a brillo pad.I would also spray something on it first to loosen and dissolve it.Ask your hardware store. Glad you got your unimatic I have been following your story.Great feeling getting your dream machine isn't it?I have almost all of mine.I just got this pristine early 50s boltdown Westinghouse I have always wanted.Another member posted it,Paul the turqouisedude dude.A great guy.

Did you get the pulsator out Jesse? Sometimes if it hasn't been removed in decades once the nut is off it still can be stuck. Usually gently rocking it back and forth with upwards motions using your hands underneath it will loosen it so it will come off the pulsator shaft.

I got the pulsator out an did a trial run. I decided that the tub is in pretty good shape.

I am however having a slight problem though. When I connected it to the water. It will only fill with hot water. No cold at all will enter on hot or warm.
