Hey everyone.... Its been a long time since I've been on here. I hope that everyone is doing well, especially in this pandemic we are having right now. I have two Unimatics, the motors on both of them have crappy wires(cloth covered).. I was wondering if there is a way to do away with the old connector wires and install new ones. One of the machines(WO-65) the wires start to smoke when spin first starts and stops smoking after it drops out of the start windings. I have the other machine,(WO-65-2) taken all apart and I am debating weather I should try and find the parts I need to make it work again or just use it for parts.. Either way both of the motors need some tlc.. Thanks fellas!!!

I'm pretty sure I changed the wires coming out of a few Unimatic motors, but it's been a very long time since I did it. I seem to remember it being a somewhat delicate procedure but it can be done.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice fellas! From what I can see is it is just the wires smoking, the motor is smooth and pretty quiet and as soon as it drops out of the start winding it is fine the wires only smoke when its pulling heavy amperage. It looks like the machine had an oil leak at one time and wire cloth has oil on it. I have never had the machine apart so I dont know the condition of the mechanism or oil. It does run pretty good and quite so I would think it still has oil in it.
