Thanks to AW.org a month or six weeks ago, I can testify that the zip-tie on a Triton XL works! GE factory authorized service told my mother and father that their 3-year old machine needed a new motor, as the bearings had failed. The service guy then said it probably wasn't worth the investment. Absolutely disgusted, they went and purchased a KitchenAid, for $800. Later I talked them into installing a new motor instead of the new KA. That motor, on my account with an appliance parts dealer, was still $128.
Seems mom's dishwasher motor must have magically healed itself with the presence of that zip tie. We have not heard the vibration since, but it was doing that, and loudly I must say, at the time I put it on, and on every load. They use that machine every other day or so, so I'm guessing it has been run at least 20 times since the "repair".
I think this repair idea would apply to any GE tall-tub machine that has the center wash-arm with conduit running underneath the upper rack. I have a slightly older, but lesser used Profile Tall Tub that is of similar design, but was not growling quite as loud. Nearly every home in my 54 house neighborhood has this same model, so I will be posting the zip-tie suggestion in our neighborhood newsletter. We'll see what I get in response.
Thanks again AW.org! We saved my folks $800!
