Gain Apple Mango Tango

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Noticed...

This flavor on the shelf in the detergent aisle at my local grocery. To date, I have not pulled the cap off to give it a whiff. Having been busted by another shopper while committing this act in the past, I don't care to be put in that awkward position again.

Actually, one of the things I miss about washing with a top load washer is not having the scent of a favorite detergent filling the laundry room. But that is the subject for another thread...

"...busted by another shopper." Someone actually gave you shit about sniffing detergent? I see no harm--it's not like you're using some of it (better known in my family as "testing the grapes", LOL).

I recently sniffed one of the Tide Simply Clean & Fresh versions and thought it pleasant, but several here have said it didn't play out well on laundered clothing. It can be deceiving. I don't mind the smell of Gain straight from the jug, but don't like it on the finished product (especially bed linens).

Frankly, I'm less fond of scented laundry products, overall. It's like flavored coffee; seems like fun on paper, but gets old rather quickly.

I thought the scent of Gain Flings (Original scent in green bag) was quite pleasant when I opened the door early in the wash cycle...but I wasn't so fond of it invading my bedroom for several days via bed linens. Has anyone tried the Moonlight Breeze version? If so, thoughts?

Here!

In the past, I was looking for Gain Apple Mango Tango stuff. I found the HE version of the detergent and I bought it. The fabric softener smells not so pleasant in my opinion.

Busted

by another shopper.  What I mean is, I got caught sniffing multiple bottles of detergent.  No words were exchanged between me and the other shopper, none were needed.  I imagine I turned three shades of red.  I suppose I was making faces at the scents that seemed unusually strong in the bottle.

While the grocer in our little village carries several variants of Gain, Apple Mango Tango (wasn't that a Ted Nugent song?) is not among them.

As I'm all about the pod format these days, I picked up a bag of Gain Moonlight Breeze-flavored Flings. Gain's ingenious solution to not being able to sniff the detergent: Put a Scratch 'n' Sniff sticker on the front of the bag. Smelled to me like a cross between a grape popsicle and the perfume included in one of those little vanity sets for 8-year old girls. The bag jumped into my cart and here we are.

Am washing a load of blacks in Perwoll Intensive Black, to be followed by a catch-all load of shirts, shorts, etc. Will try the new Gain pods and report back.[this post was last edited: 3/25/2014-18:25]

Ted Nugent - LOL! (song: Wango-Tango).

I got thirsty reading the lead on this thread.

off-subject...memories, too, of Goofy Grape, Rootin Tootin Raspberry, Freckle Face Strawberry, Loud Mouth Lime, Chinese Cherry (re-named Choo-Choo Cherry) and Injun Orange (re-named Jolly Olly Orange)...wasn't around long thanks to banning cyclamates. But if Gain can make a statement like Apple Mango Tango...that leaves the field wide open for .... Grape a Go-Go, Strawberry Fango Dang, Cheerie Charlie Cherry, and HolyMoly Orange.

Back to the discussion..and I'm curious...and will look for Gain's Apple Mango Tango just to make up my own mind.

I have used Gain Apple Mango Tango liquid detergent, and it smells nice. Not at all like a traditional detergent, but is really nice on bedding and bath linens. A very sweet fruity scent. I used a bag of the "Moonlight Breeze" Flings, and I didn't mind the scent, which was pretty feminine, but they gave me a rash... in a very uncomfortable area. Won't be buying them again.

Guess I'm alone here?

While respecting each persons point of view, truly, I don't want my laundry to smell like fruit.  Being very scent sensitive, just can't do fruit/food scents (don't like vanilla Downy either) in laundry.

I prefer clean, soapy smelling detergents.  REAL Tide, Oxydol, and Cheer gets my vote.  And why must we have 20 varieties of Tide now?  I have written to PG to request Classic Tide, Cheer, and Oxydol, but never get a response?  Just me.  Rant over.  Bad member, bad member......  So sorry Launderess.

Dunno if you're alone, oldskool. I tried the Gain scratch and sniff thingy and literally could not wait to vacate the detergent aisle, it was so strong. I can't imagine having clothes smelling like that for days on end...to each his own, of course.

If they dialed it down to about 10% of current levels it might be nice.

Used the fruity sample on sheets and bedspread this afternoon (1 load).  Tossed the whole package into the Neppy TL before realizing it's not an HE product ... oh, well ... didn't seem to cause a problem.  The scent is not as alarming as I feared.

I had a bottle of this FS last year. The scent actually didn't bother me like I thought it would. It smells a bit strong in the bottle, but after the clothes are dried it isn't bad.

The names given to some of this stuff often have nothing to do with what it really smells like. Alot of the Downy softeners regardless of name smell like they contain artificial creamy vanilla scent, something I really dislike, but this gain is not that bad.

I haven't used it for a year so perhaps it's changed, but last years scent was decent for me.
