Gain Apple Mango Tango

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I was at both WalMart and Walgreens in Worthington, MN, today, and Apple Mango Tango was on the shelf in each.

A young Hispanic family (mom, dad, 3 young children) were next to me in the aisle at WalMart. The mom would open a jug of detergent (they were in front of the expansive Gain display), sniff it, then let the kids and her husband have a whiff. The conversation was in Spanish, but I gathered they were voting for the scent they liked best. I was hoping they'd choose Apple Mango Tango---which I sniffed and thought was interesting---but they eventually settled on Island Fresh.

Apple Mango Tango comes in a red bottle... There used to be a sister red bottle fragrance, but it is less popular and harder to find (might be discontinued) (a honeysuckle something or another)...
.
Hawaiian Aloha and Island Fresh are very similar (sweet and LOUD)...
.
The new Thai Dragon Fruit is REALLY nice (and mild!)...
.
As with most (all) detergents with the name, the Lavender one smells absolutely nothing like lavender...
.
Funny, the worst one of them all is original... Ack! Gag!

I did not like the Gain Original scent pods at all...but I'm really liking the Moonlight Breeze version. The scent isn't overpowering, nor does it morph into something stinky as the days pass. Nice for bed linens.

Unfortunately, no Mango Tango in pod form...yet.[this post was last edited: 4/7/2014-20:40]

rashy!!

My Niece was so sold on this smell and product I gave it a try.. after wearing my clothes for a couple days I developed an itchy rash and my sinuses acted up. First time ever I experienced that with a laundry product.

Am Done With Highly Scented Laundry Products

That are also designed to linger for days, weeks or even months.

Whatever chemicals designed to act as a fixative for scent to last that long cannot be good. More so for items that are close to one's skin.

Am making up a laundry product care package for my cousin and her family. The Gain "Lavender", Bounce dryer sheets and possibly a bottle of Tide liquid among other things.

I know where you're coming from, Laundress. Sometimes it's refreshing when a detergent simply smells like detergent--SA8, Fuller86, Sears. Seems the shelves are lined with products competing in the Big Three F division: Forest, Flowers, and Fruit.

I went on a bender with Mexican Ariel a number of years ago---it smelled like powdered SweetTarts---and that put me off strong scents for quite awhile.

The Gain brand, especially, is all about scent. And lots of it.

Launderesss - we passed on the Apple Mango Tango scent.. sounds better than it smells, but whatever works for some...ok.

Wendyd - if it caused a rash, it would probably bite both of us - or at least my wife.

The idea of scented laundry, if light, brief, and non-rash inducing....might be fun. The laundry I remember smelling great was when my mom hung the clothes on the clothes lines in the backyard, strung between two t-shaped iron poles and the wind on a sunny day left a no-fragrance clean smell. Maybe some of you had the same experiences?

good thread.
