Garbage disposal time...

Well, the old Badger from 2005 when the house was built finally started leaking! I replaced it with another one because I know I’m not going to find the disposal I want right away, I really seem to want a vintage Waste King or one of its other names, they seem to be a good disposal that will last forever. The most important thing is I want to be able to dispose of all the food waste down this thing, everything from rinds to peach pits. I know you can get disposals that will, but we’ve never had one! I have always found putting food in the trash to be disgusting, and I want to do something about that! Am I looking at the right disposal to find or are there some others to consider as well?

I love the InSinkErator Evolution Excel or the KitchenAid KCDS100T (Same as the insinkerator). They are quite and can take almost anything.

In-sinkerator is about the best you can get...well at least with the top models that will handle just about anything.....







this is a commercial unit, which I would have thought would handle more than a residential unit....especially if you wanted something with more power and heavy duty.....

Another vote for the Excel by Insinkerator. I don't think you can beat the triple grind

Yes the Insinkerator Evolution is the best I have used. Ours is going on 7 years old now and eats up anything I feed him.

Looks like I need to look for a good deal on a newer high end InSinkErator...

I still have a fascination with the idea of opening the cabinet under the sink and seeing either a bunch of chrome, or beige and brown, possibly even orange. I guess the really important thing is how well it works. I also like how the better models have the splash guard removable, so you can dishwasher it and/or watch all the excitement down in the machine! But if its not an NOS unit from the past, I at least want a new unit that will work as well and last a good while.

A friend member ordered a new Waste King off of Amazon. The splash guard on the Badger is all shot and its been spitting stuff at your face... He decided to replace the disposal since on those you have to remove the unit to replace the splash guard anyway. We'll see what I think of that machine when it gets there... Going to help install it.

Disposing of garbage;

My sister sent me via her phone on Thursday from Ru Paul's drag race: "I can't wait to see how this goes down."
Because of her job, she can not post anything news related.
My son in law teases me with text's he makes up with an android google app since I finally got a smart phone 2 weeks ago. One was thanks for your NRA membership renewal, and yes, he knows I have a 300 Savage and a Winchester 1400 semi auto 12 gauge. I am not a member.

anywho....we had a GE Dispos-All once.....I liked that the splash shield was removable, one for tossing in the dishwasher for cleaning, but also there were times you wanted to continuous feed without it getting in the way....

have you decided which one your going to choose?

Insinkerator Evolution Excel or LC 50

Yes the LC 50 would be my other choice especially if you would be feeding it large beef, pork or lamb bones on a regular basis but as it is almost twice the price the Excel's quiet operation, extra fine grind with it's undercutters and long in home warranty maybe makes it the smartest choice.

Well my first choice is going to be a vintage something, we'll see, but if I give up and can't take this 1/2HP BADger any longer I'll spring for a new model. That'll be a hard choice to make, and ISE would made mounting the thing stupidly easy, as I wouldn't need to change the sink flange, but I also am impressed with the Waste King too.

 

So far the Waste Kings I installed this weekend have shown to be real beasts, but I'm certain any truly god garbage disposal would do what I did today. After installing the unit at Tim's parents' house, we cleaned out the fridges and found an unsettlingly large quantity of rotten food. Everything from spoiled fruit to some shockingly rotten turkey drumsticks and a wing, it really made quick work of some chicken wings, meat and all, more old food, GAG! I even tossed a whole banana down there! I'm even more convinced that no matter what I do, I need to upgrade our disposal experience sometime this year. Its funny I wasn't trying to convince them to buy a Waste King, either person that bought one, I just sent them a video of a guy showing a picked over duck carcass into one because I got a kick out of watching it, then they both just went on Amazon, bought one, then asked if I'd help install it!

What an interesting appliance, but not one that would fit under the sink! LOL Would definitely clear up a lot of garbage though I'm sure...

You can grind some serious stuff with disposers but sewer lines aren't always up to the task and animal fats can really gum them up. Don't ask how I know this...

my aunt had a disposer...probably the first one I ever saw....but as mentioned, hers would forever clog the sewer lines in the house.....

but I think it had more to do with only running enough water to clear the sink....when in reality, a few gallons should be flushed down afterwards to get the sludge flushed out to the street...

setup at the beginning of the line didn't help things either......

this is a good thread to start.....too many times, originally people have a TOL disposer, and can grind just about anything, then when the time comes to replace, they choose a cheaper model, and don't understand why it can't handle the same loads as the last one....

A woodchipper would not make a good disposer-they are designed for chipping wood.Their knives can be dulled quickly by non-wood items.Esp metal.
