Gas Prices

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I'm telling you I'd love to get a waste-oil burner for heat, but with a steam system it's hard to have the burner outside..(dont want the heavy metals and toxins indoors)

There are fast food joints and lube joints and gas stations every twenty feed along the commercial strip behind my house.

Sometimes they will pay YOU a disposal fee.

I went to get 'some' gas (you never get a lot in a Smart!) and I was amazed again how high the gas price was. The girl at the register told me that the price had gone up three times this week. Here's my receipt. It's for an expensive gas called V-power which is sold by Shell. It's sort of a high tech gasoline. I paid €1.55 per liter. Since the exchange rate is $1.25 at the moment and a gallon is 3.785 liter, I paid $7.33 for a gallon!

Wow Louis, that is a lot! Do you travel a lot? I`m fortunate that I work just a couple blocks from where I live. And I live in town so I dont have to make long trips for grocerys. I started riding my bike today and enjoyed it very much.

Yeesh! It cost me $47 to fill up my truck... halfway!

At least I'm a lol kind of gal...

If they made a hybrid truck, I'd be all for it.

Hmmm...

Silly me made a little mistake...should have used reading glasses...LOL I paid 1.53 something for the gas, so it turns out I paid 7.25 for a gallon.

No Donald, I don't travel a lot and my Smart is rather frugal with gas. I go to work by bike (there isn't even parking space there) so I don't really have to use the car. Supermarket is right around the corner, same with some other shops.

Just a thought...

I just read that the US has done an appeal on the European strategic reserves, which means that the first shipments of gasoline will come from the Netherlands because that will be faster than from other European countries. One of the consequenses is that in Europe the price of gasoline has gone up. So you could actually say that I'm paying over $7.- a gallon to let you guys pay not to much over $3.- a gallon...

that's very nice of you Louis...

Aus government has now given a "green" rating to all cars sold here, Smart came up the most environmentally aware brand overall though the Prius was the best car model.

I still like LPG conversion, our last 4 cars have been LPG. The conversion equipment comes either from Netherlands or Italy. Not only is the fuel clean and cheap, also engine wear seems to stop when running on LPG. MY first LPG car was a Renault 20, when I bought it with 150000km, it had some engine wear and used a little oil. I expected to have engine rebuilt within 12 months. I had it converted to lpg at that time. I owned the car for about 5 years, sold it with 360000km on the clock, engine had not deteriorated at all. Same with my partner's Lada Niva, 100000km on gas with no engine wear. (Not much of a car though.) Then a Toyota Corona wagon 1985, converted to gas at 140000km, sold it to my neighbour at 250000 km, she stil has it with over 420000km and engine is still good as new. My current car, the 1993 Mitsubshi, was converted at 150000km, now has 280000km, head gasket blew which is common problem on that model but mechanic said the engine was still in very good condition inside, no need even to fit new valves. Taxis in Aus almost all use LPG and generally do between 500000 km and a million km before replacement, in Melbourne at least.

I'm not sure about other countries but LPG is very plentiful in Australia, natural gas even more so. The LPG used to be just burnt off at the refinery, before LPG conversions became more common. Conversion to LPG or CNG is good for the environment as it burns cleaner; good for the nation as it reduces the need to import middle eastern oil; and lowers maintenance, and cuts fuel costs to less than half.

biodiesel

My solar energy equipment supplier uses home-made biodiesel to run his van. He collects used vege oil from fish-and-chip shops, uses a converted old dishwasher to blend it to convert to biodiesel, with glycerine as a waste product which he sells to a soap manufacturer. Car runs sweetly and the exhaust smells like fried food.
