I had this in pink and it burned my house down. be aware that,if you have pets, especially cats that like to wander and jump up on the counters, the cooktop control buttons may be easily turned on by their paws pressing on them as they wander. That's why you don't see these anymore.

What is a burner with a brain?
Thermostatic temp-control. See the right-front burner in the first pic. Round gizmo in the center is the temp sensor, presses against bottom of the pan, or griddle.

I've never seen a griddle like this, but it looks great and is made of heavy metal.

This range belonged to my neighbor who is remodeling his kitchen. I understand everything works but the clock and possibly one of the heating elements in the lower oven.

I really wish this double oven design had stayed around!

One of the last ones I saw was a GE around 1994, but my mom wanted a single-oven to replace our upper/lower combo which had a microwave as the upper unit...

I'm sure it would have easily gone the way of the range my mom did buy around the same time, if not sooner, though... The AMERICANA double, such as this one, really was built to last!

Although I can see reasons why it became extinct, I can equally see reasons why it is still a practical & unique model that I think should still be offered today!

Personally, I think this is such a far superior arrangement and design for a double oven offering in a 30" width footprint compared today's offerings which offer a very small oven and then the standard largerr oven underneath that all in the space which used to be for the oven and storage drawer below--which is then lost completely.
