Compact 120 V GE dryer

These were an interesting little machine that could not be vented, and they basically spewed lint everywhere in the area where they were used as it was not possible to have a decent lint filter on it.

I remember an older GE Appliance dealer owner talking to me about the little GE washers and dryers and he said that POS Japanese dryer was a disgrace, but he said the washer was very good.

Of course, I had to tell him that the washer was Japanese and that the dryer was actually made in the US.

We worked on hundreds of these little dryers. I still have some parts for them. The washers didn’t give much trouble. The main thing we saw were problems with the water pumps. Sometimes the trap just got clogged other times the pump leaked or seized up.

All in the performance of this compact pair was distinctly worse than a small pair of whirlpool washers and dryers there was a little comparison.

The best thing about the pair was that was only 21 inches wide so it fit in some pretty small closets and you did not have to vent the dryer.

Lint Party

So there was a lint filter but it wasn't a "decent lint filter". Then did it require changing the filter through the drying periods a few times, to avoid spewing lint all over the house or wherever it was placed? Maybe these were perfect for the porch. LOL. I've seen plenty of washers on the front porch in the south.

If you look at the space between the door and the panel at the base, you will see a gap. When you open the door, there is a screen there where the air blew through from the drum to the outside. I used to wonder if you were to lay a nylon stocking in the little screen would it might maybe help trap lint. The other thing you could maybe do is get some strip magnets and use them to attach nylon to the door and to the lower panel.
