I have a GE steam iron in avocado green, catalog # H8F95AVT. It is stamped "907", which I would intuitively translate to the 7th week of 1969. This fits the appearance, not only by the avocado green but the font and overall design. Is there a serial number database or "rules of interpretation" anywhere? I've googled with no good results.

Does the iron have a rubber or cloth cord?

If it has a rubber cord that means it can be no earlier then 1973 as that is when GE stopped putting cloth cords on their irons. PAT COFFEY

I've never been able to date GE small appliances exactly. I collect fans and the GEs have no serial number or date code that I know of. I don't know how they kept track of them for warranty repairs.

Maybe it was different for some of their other models.

I did see two chrome and black GEs similar to yours at Goodwill last week and they had blue rubber cords. Both were gone this week.

This one has a rubber cord, the same shade of green as the reinforced section shown in the photo. I wouldn't place a bet as to whether it had been changed but it would seem odd they would go the extra length to match the color of the cord to the appliance. So post '73 it is! Good info to know.
