This was my first AC unit. The department store where I worked had a sale on reconditioned or returned ac units one summer. The major appliance department was across the aisle from housewares and I looked at those units all day until the late afternoon when the man I had been talking to about them said I should take one home and try it. So we put it on a 30-60-90 day payment plan and I put it in the trunk of my car. I had a room in a friend's house and it cooled it beautifully. It did not throw air very far, but it was very quiet. When we moved to an apartment, I took it home and my father used it in his office. After he used it for 14 years, My sister and her husband took it to their house and used it in their upstairs bedroom. It was still working in the 90s when, during a thunderstorm, their crazy dog pulled the cord out of the unit during a thunderstorm. Unfortunately, it was not plugged in at the time. I think they gave it to a relative who was able to replace the cord and keep it going. It was definitely a long-lived, good performing unit.
