The GE's

Those are awesome, I would so make that trek for the set, e-mailed the seller. It never fails, soon as I clean my basement! The older GE's are interesting to me, would these be straight vane? I have a standard cap. rampie in the basement from a trashed commercial machine with good splines. The timer panel looks like there is extra space to the left of the dial.

GEs

Mine has a straight vane. Honestly, I prefer a ramp style and am casually looking for one. The straight vane has a narrow tolerance for loading. It's easy to under or over load, but can be a little tough to get just right. I think the ramp is more forgiving and is certainly more gentile on the clothes.

Good luck,
Dave

Rampie

I know they made rampies way back, but what machines had them, it seems such a random pic on the older machine where as all of the 80's machines I see have them.

Rampies vs. Straights.

I've seen black Bakelite ramp agitators (Activators in GEese). I think (and am most likely wrong) that the black Bakelite activators were followed by turquoise/green straight vane activators. These may have been followed by white plastic straight vanes (which I have) and finally, the white plastic ramp. I am likely wrong and don't know if straights and ramps were in use at the same time in different capacity machines and models.

Anyone out there know more about GE agitator usage who would care to clear this up?

I grew up with that GE machine

My nana bought that machine for our 2 family house in August of 1974. It was a 2 speed large capacity / 16 lbs. washer with a pale blue straight vane agitator, my mom had it for 18 years until I replaced it in 1991 with another GE FF. The clutch went on it about 12 years old, my mother ran that machine for six years with a broken clutch, it sounded like a jet plane going through the house....Ah good times....good time...LOL

Oh by the way

The rocker switches on the left from top to bottom were
1. wash/spin speed Normal/Gentle
2. water level low/high
3. water temp H/W W/C C/C

The cycle selector knob had Normal and Perm. Press cycles.
