My beautiful GE Filter Flow washer stopped spinning. It pumps out the water but agitates when the tub is supposed to spin. Looks like a transmission problem ? I have not run across that before on one of these.
I am moving and it will be left behind. Free to anyone who wants it. Located in Portland, OR.

tranny problem

it's a tranny problem alright-probably a broken spring clutch in the tranny.
Looks like a nice '90s era filterflo-hope someone here gets it! problem an easy fix

Good home needed

It is a beautiful machine in super cosmetic condition. Unless someone here wants it, it will most likely go for scrap. The house is to be torn down for commercial development and a scrap metal man will probably get it.

What vintage is this washer, just out of curiosity?

Judging from the control panel, I'd estimate it's somewhere between 1990 and 1994.

Unfortunately, that machine is 780 miles away from me, so it's not an option for me to pick it up.

That washer sure does look pristine.

I think is 1990 or maybe 1992 ?

There is a 1991 GE brochure here at this site and this one is almost identical but the controls are slightly different. This washer is completely rust free and operates perfect except for the no spin problem.

repair

i sure hope someone gets it as the repair-tranny repair or replace-would be so
easy and cheap for a DIY washer enthusiast.Looks really nice and clean from the
pics.

Are you Sure

it's not the timer, or lid switch? Seems odd that it agitates when it's supposed to spin You could by pass the lid switch to see if thats the problem! Hate to see the junk man get it!
Also have you posted this on the Imperial side, I know it's too young to be there, but someone may see this there, and want it

Lid switch is OK

I posted on the Imperial list. No takers. Lid switch is fine. Motor is reversing to pump out water. Makes a clicking noise when it is supposed to spin but agitiator agaitates. Works fine in wash cycle. I am still using it but hand wringing clothes. Will probably unfortunately go for scrap.

tranny problem

the problem in the tranny is that a springlike sleeve that provides a clutching
action has broken or come loose at the drive end-when running in agitate direction
this spring sleeve uncoils slightly from a cylindrical portion of the internal
mechanism frame, turning free and alowing the rotation of the input shaft to drive
the gear train of the agitation mechanism. When the motor runs in spin direction,
the spring sleeve coil tightens on the cylindrical portion-locking the tranny
internal frame to the input shaft and the whole thing along with the washbasket
starts to wind up to spin speed. With the spring sleeve broken, the agitate mechanism
is driven in reverse and you get agitation instead of spin...

Either a 1993 or 1994 machine. All the machines like this with the disconnect drain hose, with the plastic tranmission pulley and case must have leaked oil at some point. I had this exact machine with the mini basket and FS dispenser. One of the best TL machines there are. ALso had one of the last GE FF's, 1995 model TOL with program cycles, spot scrubber feature, was labelled GE Profile with profile in Italics. White console. Such an awesome machine! Too bad I don't live near you.

Stripping the console off to save it

Since the machine is going for scrap I am going to pull the wiring loose and save the top, console and wiring. Perhaps someday someone will need it or want to update a lesser two speed machine. I was thinking of pulling the agitator too but can't seem to get it loose. I will save the drop in lint filter. I don't see a reason to pull the motor - there are plenty of those around.

Hi I've the model before it! mine just miss one speed button and extra rinse knob, mine is now giving issues due to a bad shaft oil seal again, just replace the lower one year ago, maybe I'll need to replace the whole tranny, is your tranny good??? If yes please save it for me! I'm in Italy and i cannot get there of corse, but I would pay tranny and shipping!!!!
This is a pic of my washer I took one year ago to post on my leaking oil thread:

P.S Mine now just run on one speed only, do not know if it is a problem of the clutch or just the wires or speed switches that went.....
Would be there to get all the good parts of it! It's a pity to let the whole machine to go the scrapper, parts for them are going to be hard to be find and very expensive to get......

P.S #2
Sorry I've read better just now.....
If does agiatae instead of spin would means the motor runs in the wrong direction, so maybe is not a tranny or clutch problem, rather a timer problem that command wrong motor directions...but I could be wrong....if so anyway would be much easier to fix!!!!
