GE Harmony (I Got Mine)

Well, this past weekend, I took delivery of a GEHarmony washer and dryer set in graphite. I must say that I am more impressed than I thought I could have been.

The dryer has blown most of the lint out of the exhaust duct. The back yard is covered with it. I guess the duet dryer just couldn't do the job.

Here are a few surprises this machine has hidden in it.

1) The extended spin option increases the final spin to a whopping 16+ minutes. My towels had dry spots at cycle completion.

2) The Super Clean cycle is actually a profile wash in disguise. It fills with cold water and washes for about 12 minutes. Then pauses and heats for 30 minutes. Then continues agitation for another 6 to 8 minute. Then heats again. Then agitates for 6 to 8 more minutes. Then heats one last time followed by about 15 minutes of agitation. The whole cycle is under three hours.

3) The Sneaker Cycle took the Georgia Clay right out of my shoes and made them look like new.

4) The presoak option can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 8 hours and it is followed by a 6 minute spin out before going into the main wash.

5) The spin between the main wash and first rinse is about 8 minutes(including the spin spray).

6) The dryer cools to about room temperature before shutting off. A load of 8 t-shirts dried in about 12 minutes(not including cooldown).

7) Raising the lid and putting it back down in the first couple of minutes in the wash automatically increases the amount of water in the wash. So, lack of water should never be a problem.

So far, I am amazed at their flexibility. There is a cycle for everything. And for the same price as the Oasis, it was the obvious choice.

I bought a new HARMONY set about a month ago, and yes, they are awesome machines! They're made by LG ELECTRONICS in KOREA, and LG makes fantastic stuff!I didn't know that about raising the lid, interesting. I've got two extra hoses hooked-up and just add more water at the start of the cycle. If you don't think it's agitating fast enough, try the VIGOROUS option--it hauls!!! I'm amazed at how much laundry fits in it-it's huge. And you're right, the dryer is unbelievable. I love them both and wrote to GE complimenting them. I just don't understand why they don't advertise them more-certainly they're other washers & dryers can't be selling that well now. Whirlpool and Sears are advertising their CABRIO/OASIS machines like crazy, certainly this is a similar type of machine. Come on GE, compete!

Old HE3T Set

My old HE3T set were given away to a good home. I thought I might miss them after the fact, but not at all.

GEJOHN - Try the sneaker cycle with vigorous wash action. It is almost completely BASKET WASH. (The tub and impellar are locked together) It is like a huge stainless steel agitub. GREAT FUN!

I much like the stainless dryer interior over the white enamel which eventually turns blue with a couple loads of jeans. YUK. I hated having an almost eye level dryer with a window in the door only to see that mess.

GEJOHN - Have you noticed the clothes in the dryer kind of ride towards the front of the drum? It may be a trick of the eye, but I think the drum is wider at the front and narrower in the back. This coaxes the load closer to the sensor where they should be and away from the heat source. Which also turns black in the Whirlpool dryers from scorching(sp) wet clothing.

It certainly looks like GE got it right!

Yes, I have noticed the clothes,even small loads, work their way up to the front of the dryer. I'll have to try the sneaker cycle. I haven't used the washer that much because it's SO BIG and I have other smaller machines more matched to the wash loads. This is an incredible washer though, with SO MANY cycles I get lost sometimes in the choices. And the dryer has to be the fastest dryer I've ever owned. I thought my old MAYTAG was fast. I believe this dryer has 2 motors for faster drying.

No Space.

I wish I had space for multiple washer/dryer configuration. Alas, only room for the one set. I do, however, have a Haier to loader hidden in a spare closet. I pull it out once a month or so to run it through its paces. It will have to do.

Yes, the Harmony dryer has two motors.

Update.

My Harmony washer has developed an problem with the LCD screen. It is no longer backlit. It is operational, but dark. I placed a service call with GE and a technician came out without fail. He ordered a replacement LCD panel which was supposed to be delivered within one week. One week later, no panel. The technician called and left a message that the panel, which is essentially the timer, is on backorder till the end of September. Which means an early October repair.

So, since 6 to 8 weeks for a repair on a machine is unacceptable, the Harmony set are being returned. Quite a shame since they have proven to be better machines than my Whirlpool Duets. GE needs to get a handle on stocking parts for these things.

Wow that is just terrible Malcolm, I'm sorry to hear that. My dryer has a tendency to do that on rare occasions, but if I put a bright light on it I can see the markings to push the buttons. Can you do that until the part comes in?

Too Late...

They were picked up this morning and replaced with a Bosch Nexxt set. The Bosches are currently running the maiden cycle and I hope to have positive things to say after they have been used a bit.

One thing that I did notice on the Harmony set and perhaps someone else can confirm was the use of a bit more water when the cycles were chosen by color rather than garment type.

EEKS!!! I've heard some horror stories about the HARMONY set-yours is another one! I'm getting worried! I've had mine for about 5 mos. and no problems, YET!!! Parts? That's what happens when products are made overseas!
