GE & Hoover - Latest additions to the family

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Absolutely amazing machines! I wish we'd had a rapid-advance GE model like that here - what a breathtaking washer panel. Did you get the filter pan with it? I'm sure that won't be hard to come by if not.

The Hoover gold agitator is a bit of a shock with all the other blues & grays - I wonder why they did that? It's amazing how similar these are to the Blackstones over here. What year is this one from?

Filter pan is white, Minibasket is green

Hi All,

The minibasket is tiny compared to the one in my 70's GE.

The GE is the first rapid advance timer machine I've seen in AU from that era, It would've been unbeleivably expensive. I was amazed at how simple/nasty the clips are that keep the lid up on the GE, I thought it was broken at first, but its just a cheap design.

The washer still has its signed Quality control sticker on the back of the control panel.

The original agitator in the Hoover would've been blue, The agitator cap is original, but the brown agitator was available from the next series on, with a smaller chrome cap. As far as we can tell, the hoover is from the very late 60's, early 70's. I dont know when this design started, but it was available until about 1980.

The Merry Old Land of Oz...

Amazing how there's a "family resemblance" to American GEs, but that control panel is completely different. It always seems to be that way when American products are made in Oz; they have to be redesigned for different conditions and preferences. In the 1960s, Ford exported the Falcon to Australia. People there liked the car, but quickly found out it didn't hold up well outside of major cities, because it was designed for American "boulevard . Ford had to do considerable redesign to get the car up to Aussie standards. It worked- the Falcon was made longer Down Under than it was here.

The Falcon Still Exists today

The Falcon has now been in production in AU for 47 years, its still an Australian design unlike the GMH large car which is now based on GM's global platform.

Did GE never offer a rapid advance timer option in the US?
