GE kitchen - Minneapolis

A while back, I started a post about a large home right around the corner from me that was going to be torn down due to redevelopement. The home did have a great 1950's GE kitchen. The developer has listed it on craigslist. Seems like a great deal for the right person!

As many of these wall mounted refrigerators as we have seen, we have yet to see one of the undercounter roll out freezers that were sold to augment the freezer capacity of the unit on the wall. Maybe people just opted for separate deep freezers, either chest or upright in another part of the house. It would make more sense.

and wall fridges were a boon

for a taller person! I have to get down on hands and knees to access the bottom 2 shelves of our top-freezer model... I've even thought about putting it up on blocks. What were they thinking?...sheeesh!

If I had to guess, I'd say the "over and under" Americanas from the mid-1960s were GE's attempt to force that issue. Those have the fridge compartment up top, similar to the wall-mount fridges in location, and down below was a roll-out freezer underneath a section of countertop. If you'll look at one, you'll see it's very similar in intent to the wall fridge + add-on freezer concept.
