GE NEW washer "walks"

I do believes they'z got a gyroscopic balance ring, but no un-balance turn-off method.
Someone in my hosuehold ran bedsheets with towels and managed to get water everyehere. How exactly that unbalance went I have yet to figure out.

Sorry, I don't believe this video. I think it was faked, with either a phone book in the tub, or legs that weren't seated agains't the floor. He states he's had this machine since May and posted the video in December with 4 repairs on this machine from Sears? He could have had Sears take it back by then, and exchange or refund it. Youtube videos can be anything you want them to be. I have 2 newer GE washers, one just like the one in the picture, and have never had either one walk or bang at all. So I think something is "out of order" in this video, but I don't think its the machine.

Nope our 1956 GE did this same thing

I am with ya johnb33m - especially if sears delivered it. Those toothless wonders are not the least bit concerned if the machine is full of hand prints or if it is all taken care of before they leave the residence. Sorry, they don't care AT ALL.

Nice try, but I'll only buy that story if the washer comes pre-loaded with an off-balance load, which is clearly shown in the last few frames of the video.

Killer Washing Machines
When I was young my Mother told me a story about a woman that was washing clothes and she was ironing near the washer. The washer "walked" up to her and crushed her against the wall. The point of the story was always to keep your eyes on the washer as you never know what it will do. this would have been in the 1940's.
One would think that the power cords/hoses would prevent it from walking too far away from it's original location. But a kid generally believes whatever their parents tell them at that age.

RE: Woman killed by washer. Did the lid open, the washer GROOWWLL and give her a good sliming of dirty Tide water in the process? I at least hope she had the courage to scream before she was crushed.

I don't mean to sound cruel or heartless, but that kinda sounds like a St. Olaf story Rose would've told on GOLDEN GIRLS.
And Whilrcool, you even said it yourself:

I take it at the time you were sneaking peeks and lifting the washer lid again?

I have been around out of balance washers before and they are hard to ignore. If an off balance washer was in the room, I would certainly notice and stop it. Unless she was deaf, I think she would have noticed all the banging.

That's exactly what I was doing when she told me the story. I think I was 7 at the time. What parents tell their kids.

Thinking about it, an off balance, walking washing machine would make enough noise to wake the dead. How could someone not hear/see it coming? I think there would be more than ample time to get out of the way, or lift the lid, or unplug the sucker before it got you pinned to the wall.
Our Whirlpool unit hardly goes out of balance, but when it does even the dogs start woofing at it because of all the noise, but it doesn't walk anywhere.

My mother had a center dial Tag delivered probably around 1976 or so. After the 1st 2 loads she did, she called the appliance dealer. Something is wrong with the machine. It was slamming into the wall and counter next to it. They came and looked at it and replace the machine. I guess there were some parts left out of it during assembly. Maytag even paid to have the wall and counter fixed. So who knows the video may actually be real. If Maytag can make defective machines I am sure all manufactures can. Don't even get me started about defective cars and trucks that I have purchased.
