GE Potscrubber 1200 needs more oomph

I have a question for yall.

Since I don't know a whole lot about dishwashers.

My beloved GE Potscrubber 1200 hasn't had the "oomph" it once had anymore. I can tell by listening to it, it's not sloshing as much as it should and it doesn't clean well on some things.

This is NOT right and I know the Potscrubber is a work horse and could do better.

Any ideas on what I can do to get its power back? Do I need to clean out the pump or the plumbing underneath?

A new dishwasher is out of the question. No money and no desire to take the Potscrubber out unless a vintage Kitchen Aid is going in its place.

Sounds to me that you have a clogged pump inlet or something going your your pump impeller. I would take the sump cover off and check to see what is going on in it. Clean it out and it should restore the power. This dishwasher moves about 35 gallons per minute thru the wash system. Also when your in the sump area feel the grate at the pump opening. Be careful of the chopper spring.

I would suggest that you check the water valve and make sure the inlet screen is not clogged. Maybe not enough water is getting into the machine.

I would take Terry's suggestion first. I had to had service on the inlet valve twice in the 20 years I had mine. To test this theory, after it has filled up with the allotted time of water, add another gallon of water via a large stock pot and turn it back on and see if that improves.

It's possible the pump itself is also worn out and just needs a replacement impeller. Those don't last forever. But I would check that water inlet valve first...these machines need a lot of water to work well.

area to check: Is the machine slowly draining water when it washing? Look for evidence of water coming out of the drain hose while washing. If so, there is a problem with the drain gate valve. This can be addressed by a simple cleaning or at worst a new pump-motor that the valve is part of.
