Is the “new” BOTL GE dishwasher the same as the old Potscrubbers? They look the same on the inside, except for the filter in the back of the tub. Just wondering if they are still no nonsense machines and if they perform as well as the good ol’ Potscrubber.

While the basic architecture is the same the new machines are terrible. The racking is terrible, especially the upper the rack. The spray pattern is different and much less effective, coupled with less water per fill. The filtration system is basically useless and they changed the main sump cover to have smaller holes, which means all the scraps accumulate there and get nice and yucky until you scrape them out by hand.

These BOL GEs are found in mass numbers across the US in starter homes and apartments, and they’re horrible. We had a Nautilus back in the last years before moving out of my parents’, and I already had a low to moderate opinion of it, but it cleaned circles around these things. The top rack is the worst offender. No tines at all, just bent rack wire to kinda lay things against one another and hope they stay put. Then the lack of a ceiling spray arm, so grit collected in the tops of glasses is just a given. Then there’s the wash arm speed, which for some reason is twice as fast as the normal rotation of a lower arm in any other machine, which means it not only sounds…wrong, it also isn’t thorough. And, like stated above, the filtration disk is apparently there for looks, as it’s only fed by a little offshoot under the wash arm, so it barely even counts as passive filtering. Pair that with not even a layer of tissue paper for insulation inside the door or over the tub and you might as well get a big Rubbermaid tote and a dish drainer and a spinning lawn sprinkler before spending $250-300 on these things.
