I was doing some Google searches to see what happened to Roper ranges. I found out that GE ranges are made in the Roper plant in LaFayette GA. I never knew that, I always assumed they were made in Appliance Park KY like they used to be. When did they change? I remember reading here that the GE gas ranges in late 80s/early 90s were Ropers. Didn't realize all production moved to Roper plant.

GE Ranges

GE got the Roper Plants in around 1990, Whirlpool got the Roper name.

When GE got Ropers plants many of their ranges & Wall ovens started coming out of the Roper plants, and they were crap compared to what GE had been building.

The great majority of GEs gas ranges have come from a GE factory in Mexico the last 20 years or so, Their electric ranges have been built in the US, and most have lost the crappy Roper design and poor build quality.

A friend's duplex

had Roper builder's spec appliances when he bought it. It was built in 1985. The calrod electric slide in range was identical to our Kenmore that was here when we bought this house. Only difference was the digital clock, oven control, and self clean feature. I've seen GE's both electric and gas with the identical control panel and heat shield. Heavy ass stove. I yanked it out myself.
Free standing GE gas ranges from the late 80's with the rolling mechnaical digital clocks were built by Tappan.

Our GE BOL electric range was bought new in 2017 and I just looked at the serial number sticker near the storage drawer and it says that it was built in Mexico.

Regardless, this stove is very good quality by todays standards, nothing equals the quality of yore. I’ve been very happy with this stove, its simple and does just what its supposed to do. The oven bakes evenly, the broiler works flawlessly, and the burners all maintain set temps without fluctuation. Its easy to keep clean and looks nice in the kitchen, kinda like new retro.
