GE Takes On DOE/Energy Star

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I don't think we should be

thinking about slowing down any Ocean currents, that WILL lead to serious global warming.

I think this letter from GE is very current. Especially in light of the new SQ gray water rinsing for Commercial top loaders. I thought all this ES was Mandatory but it seems voluntary on the part of the manufacturer's, they don't get the Fed Dollar if they don't participate, isn't that how it works?
If so then manufacturer's should offer the consumer two lines of product. I know I'm not tweaking down my water levels in the SQ ever!

Rinsing is now the big problem and complaint out there, that's why we all need Rosalie's No Suds detergent.
Thats no suds throughout the entire wash cycle (patent applied for) not just at the beginning -which is all that the current crop of HE detergents today can accomplish.

Jon, widely spaced windmill-type generators will not slow the current. It is a powerful river flowing within the Atlantic.

Whether Rosalie's makes suds or not, it still has to be rinsed out of the fabrics, no? My front loaders that give good water extraction between water changes rinse well. Because of the low water consumption in a FL, it is imperative to spin as much water out of the clothes as is practical between water changes so that you are not hampering the dilution process by carrying over water from the previous fill. The SQ FL, does not meet that requirement. I have stopped using the extra rinse button and started moving the selector dial to Spin after the wash. I let the load go through a long high speed spin and then set the dial to Rinse & Spin. I repeat this and, for a load of 4 heavy bath sheets, I rinse them 3 times, but the good extraction gives better rinsing and softer bath sheets. It is interesting to see how much more water is spun out of the clothes once the machine starts the real spin after the pulse spins.

Rising sea Levels - yet they have to consume less water??

Is the actually rinsing, or is it actually shrinking?
As far as I was aware it was rising, well this means more water in the world, not less.
It's the same when over here we have things called droughts even though they say we have no water, and can't use it, the sea is rising, its about time companies worked on innovative ways to pump sea water in and clean it, put it in our mains water pipes/reservoirs (whatever they called in the US) and then use that, we will never run out.
I agree with the post #1 - they need to reconsider water usage levels.

Building non-Energy Star appliances would work only if the makers thought enough units would sell to justify production. Consumer groups such as CR magazine would probably vilify any such washing machine or dishwasher as "wasteful" and drag down it's ratings.

IMHO CR, the federal government and others need to start factoring in increased wear on textiles along with residue from poor soil removal/rinsing when thinking up these ES machines.

is it clean or does it look clean?

"No sudsing detergent."

Does anyone care if things are clean or if they just LOOK clean?

Strong perfumes are put into detergents so things "smell clean." But obviously if they are perfumed it means they are perfumed, but not necessary clean.

I agree with the sentiment above, a detergent may be no sudsing but it also needs to be rinsed out.

And, no, nobody cares about clothes wear because of inadequate dirt removal. Just buy more cheap clothing from China.
