If, IF, we are seriously concerned about water and the environment, we could put giant generators in the Gulf Stream along the Eastern seaboard. They have generators in the one of the rivers in NYC and they are working out very well. Also, we are faced with rising sea levels because of melting ice. We could harvest that fresh water, but as yet no one is desperate enough for water for any business to be motivated to explore doing it and then present a proposal for government assistance to carry it out. A few aqueduct projects and the water could be dumped into aquifers, but we are still in denial. Maybe a few more summer droughts and the powerful farm lobby will convince their elected whores, I mean representatives, that they need this. It would not be cheap but given the choice between coastal inundation along with drought-induced famine and some government-corporate partnership type spending to mitigate the effects of climate change, I would imagine the nation would choose the path to survival. It is sad to see that we have lost the imagination and dreams of decades past and are just stuck bitching at each other.
