hey guys, my parents' GSD6600 Triton XL dishwasher has been making this "growling" noise for some time. It's sometimes intermitant, and sounds like something with the pump. It'll make the growl sound for like 5min, then quiet for a few seconds, then growl again. Neither I nor my parents have noticed any leaks, so i don't think it's a failing pump seal. The noise does not seem to interfere with performance. The dishwasher washes dishes beautifully. The noise is just annoying.

any ideas what the growling could be? is it the pump/motor, something vibrating on the kitchen cabinets?
what does a growling noise mean?

I fixed it!
I read somewhere that if the feed conduit to the middle and upper sprayers was loose, it rattles with the water pumping through it, causing the growling noise.
when i stuck my head in there, lo and behold, the hex screw holding the dock for the middle sprayer to the tub wall was loose.
so i tightened it down, and it's silent as the day we bought it.

There's a funny thing that has to do with the hard food grinder in these Triton XL GE machines. The sump inlet is covered by a stainless steel screen with aprox. 1mm holes. under the coarse drain screen is a small plastic perforated basket that is hooked up to the drain motor. the main pump motor sucks water through the screen and perforated basket, pumping it to the sprayers and a fraction of it to the micromesh filter. so....since everything is covered with screens, solid foods never really reach the chopping blades...so they're moot. Yet GE still advertises that these machines have an operational hard food disposer. which simply is not true, because nothing larger than coffee grounds ever comes in contact with the chopper. solid food is strained out, and pumped out, unmacerated, by the drain motor, and whatever is too large to go through the coarse screen [4mm x 4mm holes] just sits in the sump.
It's a fantastic wash system, but.....has no solution to handling large food particles.
