It's been a while since I shared a project here, due to being busy and having too many irons in the fire; as they say! Hopefully this one interests some of y'all!
Things from the mid-century modern era are popular these days; and as such there are more repairs being done on appliances from this era. It is getting harder and harder to locate working fridges. Items previously cast aside as unrepairable or "static display only" are now being presented for repairs.
The earlier fridges from the late 30's through late 40's are much simpler and easier to repair. This video series will take you through the repairs to a mid 1950's General Electric LW-11 wall-mounted refrigerator.
This one has the typical findings - evidence of multiple prior repair attempts of varying skill levels; deterioration from age and exposure to moisture; handling and transportation damage; and lost originality in various ways.
Follow along while I repair this fridge. It may give you some ideas of things to watch out for when searching for a similar item for your own use.
