GE washer gearbox

Hello everybody. I was wondering if anybody has taken apart a GE gearbox. I have noticed that when the motor, clutch and belt goes clockwise, the agitator will twist back and forth. Whereas the transmission goes counterclockwise, everything will spin including the tub. I am sure that GE transmissions have all metal gears. Has anybody seen how they work? If so, how well built were they? My GE is going on 15 years with 0 problems. Thank you.

Why did GE transition to their smaller gearboxes? What made it increase agitation speed? If so, what and how? I'd like to know.

Why did GE make their gearboxes smaller? How were they able to increase the agitation speed? How were they able to handle the high torque from the motor? I could've sworn the gearboxes were all steel. What type of oil did they use? The GE washer article only said that their transmissions decreased the oil capacity from 86 to 5.5 ounces.

is/was to cheapen up the whole line so they could enhance shareholder value.

FWIW, my 1999 unit from Monkey Wards carried the freight for almost 15 years before it gave up the ghost with a tub seal meltown that in turn, took our the tranny.

Until then, it did the job it needed to do and gave me no grief in the process.

gear oil

I guess GE used the same oil as they did in their filter-flos, correct or am I mistaken?
